btw, does the wood need to be sealed, before the application of the varnish ?

you can seal the wood using the spar urethane, then finish it with spar urethane... 😀

koya, hows the bench? na finished na sya with spur urethane? how much per quarts/gallon? or your making another four then sabay sabay na ang finishing hehe thanks

sure joey, ginaya ko lang din naman yang bench na yan,

puede mong i-widen yung "seat", instead of 2 x 8 , gawin mong 2 x 10...

planning to build 2 0r 3 more pa...:p

kailangan ko ring i finish yung bench, malapit na tag-ulan 😮

wow, this is a bench I want to build for use in front of our house, gayahin ko ah 😀

Just want to ask a question about the cutting angle. When I researched the history of the bench, the angle for cutting the legs was at 60 degrees (or 30 degrees from square). What's the primary consideration for the 22.5 degree angle? The only thing I could think of was that the bigger angle would lead to a more "laid back" seating. [COLOR="Blue"]On this site, the part the back rest is connected to is also notched, not sure if this is necessary.

What do you guys think?

ginaya ko lang din yan...

i think so too chito.
and putting a notch or tapered cut on the edge at the top of the back rest will modify your back posture or position, i guess any will do.
omitting the notch is fine since we love seating with a slight tilt.
putting a notch will put you on a straight back seating posture.
