We had our ceiling replaced with Marine Plywood and realized during the painting process it uses a lot of paint. What I mean is it absorbs paint that 1 or 2 coats of paint will not give you a good finish.

My question is there a preparation or way for a marine plywood or any wood for that matter to lessen paint absorption?

Thank you.

apply primer first ( rules of thumb )..
a flat wall enamel will do.
just to minimize paint absorption.

flat wall is old school and has disadvanatages..strong odour is one, second is the curing time and thirdly..the final finish needs to be enamel based as well...another thing...the brush or roller you will use will need paint thinner for clean up..and i dont like to use paint thinner anymore for health reasons..

do not expect to live in the house for a week at least especially to asthmatics.

isnt it that enamel based paints have volatile organic compounds?

use a water based primer instead...or some water based putty...and the final coat is of course water based or an acrylic based paint..quick to dry and with much less odour...almost same price with your enamel based paints.

.....if you will just read the fine prints in the plastic paint cans and you will understand a thing or two about paints..do not trust always the people inside mall hardwares to give you the right answers to your questions especially about paints...they are just plain ignorant (most of the time) or simple nagpapanggap..or what they will say are just hearsay.

and its a going to be an expensive trial and error.

ah yes the answer to your simple question is to primer your ply first...now what is a primer again?
