For this one I used 3/4" marine plywood, interior is laminated matted finish white. All corners and gap are sealed with silicon sealant to prevent the moisture and water to seep inside the board.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

I stumbled at the home depot and found this concealed hinge by Hafele. I think during the Hafele seminar it's not yet out in the market. Only Blum Hinges has this one before. This is what I'm looking for a quality hinges " a three-dimensional adjustment, XYZ axis" in just a simple turn on screws, clip top function and soft closing.

Other hinges you need to manually pull the hinge or door to adjust.

Just by pressing the clip you can removed the cabinet door. No need for a screw driver.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

hi pancho...pangunahan ko na si master bryant...me oras pa ako today to stay in front of the pc...hehe

working with mdf has pros and cons..basing it on my little experience here they are

mdf pros:
1. cost is almost the same with a good brand locally made plywood...they are all imported coming from malaysia..unless i am not well informed.
2. can be routered to produce the edge trimming you want
3. flat
4. no voids unlike plywood

mdf cons
1. heavy...meaning to say it can be limited as doors for kitchen cabinets but not as wardrobe cabinets...if they become the latter, you need to add more quality hinges
2. fine dusts from machining these stuff can pose danger to your lungs...so be protected
3. water is their enemy..so laminating these stuff is the better thing to do..they will become almost impermeable to water.
4. they attract the growth of fungus especially during this rainy season ( and i really hate the whitish patches of fungi growing almost epidemically to involve all available surface in no time at all!)

lets wait for master bryant to chime in..for other tips

Re: MDF Boards Projects

hi violane thanks for pointing that out, been working with alot of hardwood since after college ( previous job ) and studying characteristics of every wood, one thing i hate about them is the finishing process and was thinking of mdf to shorten time in making stuff hehehehe ( home improvement mostly)

p.s. miss having the first one to get those premium hardwood 🙂

I agree with you that finishing wood is a lot harder than mdf boards UNTIL you encounter a chipped panel:eek: ang hirap i-repair. Have seen many projects na uka uka yung laminates and they just try to remedy with touch up paint, its so ugly. You really need to practice cutting them just like bryant. It's the skill that counts talaga kaya mahal din sya bec of the processing. But if you can cut it perfectly then it's worry free.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

Based on experienced you need to combined the following

Good saw blade + speed of cutting + depth of cut

to have a clean edge on both sides of laminated boards or minimal chipped edge.
