Closet Proposed Design vs. Actual (after installation).

Do you still cover the top of the cabinet (space between cabinet and ceiling)?

@violane

May adjustable footing yun cabinet then i covered it with boards. Very important na nakalevel at nasa hulog yun cabinet para hindi makaproblema sa alignment ng doors. Kaya yun side at top ng cabinet ang nilalagyan ko ng filler board.

For the adhesive I use multiform brand para din siyang rugby. Wala pa kse budget for edge banding machine na hot melt glue yun gamit.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

Laminating the MDF Board for sliding door of closet using Greenlam Laminate.

after application of adhesive.

Aligning the laminate before manual pressing. Need to start press on one side going to the other side same time removing the rod one by one to avoid bubbles.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

bro, I use to laminate table tops just like the way you're doing but I don't use spacers like your steel rods. Don't they stick into one of the surfaces or do you coat them with something?

Re: MDF Boards Projects

@Jarod
I always use spacer para hindi agad dumikit yun laminate sa kabilang side or sa middle. I have experienced na dumikit yun kabilang dulo tapos bitin pa sa gilid mahirap alisin hanggang mapunit yun laminate kapipilit tanggalin. Ended up buying a new one worth P1800. Some metal laminate cost around less than 3K. There's no room for mistake. It also help me to prevent bubbles trap inside the laminate by pressing one side going to the other side.

Walang coating yun rod. Di masyado dumidikit sa maliit lang yun surface area ng rod in contact with adhesive.

Hehe, I think that's part of the learning process. You just need to go over cursing yourself when the thing sticks wrongly and until you get to curse more when the laminate cracks 😀

I use rugby since I laminate it on wood planks but what adhesive do you use in MDF? I'm worried if the MDF may absorb the adhesive and expand.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

I'm using multi-form adhesive. It adhere more than "rugby" contact cement.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

Doing laminate inlay on MDF board.

Removing ~1.0mm on top MDF board using router. I had a hard time with this one coz a have a fixed based router & had only 1/4" straight bit. So I need several passes on MDF board to removed 100mm width on the board.

Putting adhesive on board & laminate.

Finished product.

Next try must be using Skill Plunge Router. hehehe . I wish...

Re: MDF Boards Projects

there are mortising bits available to halve the time you spent in your recent post..

but these low quality mortising bits arent good enough to rout both edges of the laminates cleanly so i suggest you make use of a solid carbide four flute end mill (1/4" shank to fit your gmr1) and it will produce crisp edges without chips and burrs.

that is the usual problem with inlay work on laminates...for a professional look, it has to be seamless.

meaning..you must make use of new sharp carbides.always.

Re: MDF Boards Projects

@violane

I'll try your suggestion to use 4 flute end mill for my GMR1. I have no problem with the quality of cut using 1/4" EZcut straight bit medyo mabagal lang compare if I used 1/2" straight bit.
