Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

That's great rosy! A time lapse video would be a great and fun thing to watch.

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

ha ha Rosy...thanks again

(a little off-topic here): tell your son to practice Windows' Moviemaker so he can edit your clips. he might need a video converting software too. It took me 2 hours to compile everything and to produce a 9 minute movie 😉

Yeah Armand I'll tell him that tonight when he gets back from work. Actually I'm dependent on my son when it comes to computers, he is the one editing my pics to be posted, he does photoshop, cadding and many more. He would teach me the ins and outs of posting pics and how to upload it too, sometimes I would call him in the office for assistance when I somehow forget the right proceedure, mahirap yuong computer illeterate. Well at least I'm learning fast and being able to do replies and post pics.:p :rolleyes:

Anyway I'm pretty sure he can easily learn the tricks in movie making and posting videos.;)

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

Yes Jarod the time lapse video is going to be fun to watch just like what Armand did, he pioneered it here at PHM, it has opened other possibilities for WIPs., and I'm very excited about it and looking forward in seeing other members posting WIPs not just still pics but maybe minutes of moving videos.

----------------------------

Sorry Admin for out of topic discussion with Armand, ang sarap at napaka ganda ng pinag uusapan namin kasi, anyway beneficial naman sa lahat in the future for all PHM members.

Pasensya na po.

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig
he pioneered it here at PHM
i believe there were two members who already posted their craft in youtube in the past.
iirc, timber (tv stand) and bebeenator (scissor jack router lift)

@armand,

havent watched the video yet but the build looks already intimidating hehe
curious, what router is that btw?

i thought of this horizontal router for mortising before but i cant decide which router to use and the sliding mechanism that needs to be smooth and perfect..i dont know if your drawer glide gets dust easily with that build and if that is so can you figure out the appropriate dust collector?well future builds are almost always better than the first i guess.

i do not know if placing your name first in the title could affect searching for related videos.just a thought.

great.

doc v,

In that case if there were two members already have done posting their crafts on youtube which I haven't seen yet, then I stand corrected but it does not change the fact that it is still more effective in sharing and showing WIPs instead of just still pics.

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

@docV:

the color indicates that its an Ozito trimmer..so the title can also be changed to Ozito Mortising Kit :p

I never thought of the dust collector thing..maybe in the future builds.

I thought the words i entered in the tag will give a searcher a list of videos related to mortise and tenons regardless of the first word in video title.

Thanks docV.

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

@armand,

yeah as we know it routers are wood monsters and spews dust here and there. please make way for the dust collector and for sure i will build mine as soon as you figure it out. hehe

btw i will try to just search "mortising" and find out myself if yours will also be in the list of hits.

@rosy,

the videos posted by the ones i mentioned roughly ended in just 30 seconds!

i wish i could post mine videos too when i made the kreg jig dust collection sometime 2 months ago.

will surely paste the link for you.haha..its in my pocket videocam..just learning the software it came with.

goodnite.

and i believe the strenght of the m/t joint is hard to beat.
that's an amazing jig!
congratulations on your new innovation.

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

Thanks Jonathan..may background music sana kaso nagbago isip baka di bagay.

This jig is really amazing i just finished a quickie project with 34 mortise slots and 34 tenons, all cuttings done in less than 2 hours without a sweat. The main advantage of this jig is its capability to make repeatable cuts with accuracy. I only need to measure once and cutting is a breeze. I'm already planning to make another one with bigger router, table and flatform.

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

Sir, because of the router making integral mortise and tenon becomes enjoyable 🙂

Anybody here who is a proponent of loose tenon?
Is there any difference in terms of strength of the joinery?

a loose tenon is often as strong as an integral one, but it can be stronger provided the loose tenon material can be made of better material.
there isn't really a need for a proponent for it :p or would it need one :eek:?

Re: Mortise and Tenon Jig

@balarila: Not yet Ding :D, infact i added some features to it so that it can also do other cuts like rabbeting and finger-joints for box making. I'm eyeing the Skil router that you tested coz it has 1/2" shank and has bigger power than the one i'm using now. This jig can still accomplish a set of dining chairs project and some other quickies but talking about queen size bed frame and trestle dining table projects using real hardwoods will cast doubts on its capability.
