here's mine about 2 weeks old already....basic, rugged, haphazardly constructed.

the wips were shot using my cellphone but i can't find the cable that connects to my computer so no wip pics.

just over 2 ft working height...comfortable enough for my waist.

table top made from lumber core plywood (battenboard)

Re: My 1st simple workbench...

vise mount made from lumber core plywood about 3/4 in thickness to strengthen the mounting. bolts used are low carbon bolts....uhmmmm. never mind the vise. just an el cheapo made from mild steel....lol. but it still gets the job done

under the table

Re: My 1st simple workbench...

Sometimes others mount their bench vise with the back jaw in line with the table edge. Allows working on longer pieces.

Something like this ...

Millermatic 180 Autoset Mig Welder
Miller Spoolmate 100 Spool Gun
Victor Firepower 350 Oxy Ace Outfit
3M Speedglas 9002X AD Helmet
Makita LC1230 Dry Cut Saw
Ingersoll Rand Air Tools
Snap On Tools
Metabo Power Tools
Norseman Drill Cutting Tools
Bosch Power Tools
3M PPS

Re: My 1st simple workbench...

i was thinking of that but after nailing the table top i realized that the vise mounting holes will interfere with the cross members. planning!!!.....i have plans to buy a heavier vise and mount it on truck rims but for now i'll live with it.

Yes .... it works ok on rims but try get a heavier rim when you build it. Mine rocks when loaded with heavier parts to clamp specially when side to side motions are required ( i.e. wrenching )

It's very handy to have a vise mounted on the table itself but sometimes it interferes with the work. Often I find the vise on rims near the table more convenient.
