Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

I was just wondering about work sequence. I was with the idea that all woodworking should be done before starting the finishing work. Timber must have a very good reason to start applying finish on the top before starting work on the legs.

the top is a totally different piece, so finishing it is the correct thing to do since it will receive more attention in finishing than the legs. Way more.

Moji, let me know when you can visit, best if you can pass by bukas before I start sealing it... the trick about scrubbing pad is something I can tell you and you can feel.

Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

sige, but only if I would do that step on it. it is a bit tedious but very fulfilling once you see and feel the finish.

Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

What scrubbing pad do you use for it? Does it have to be a certain type or any will do?

Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

here is the picture from yesterdays work, sanding sealer dried...

scrubbing pad and a spritzer bottle with water and a small amount of dish washing detergent...

a little elbow grease and remove the high spots and uneven finish and leveled it to be without shine...

Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

then comes glazing...

wipe off the excess and let dry...

five hours later and no longer tacky, I start with the scrubbing pad again and leveled the glaze...

Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

this is how I left it to further dry...

while I was waiting for the glaze to dry, I started cutting the leg blanks to size...

brought it home, hopefully I can work on it during this weekend...

Is your scrubbing pad with water technique just for the sanding sealer? Will this work with poly too?

Re: My Commissioned Conference Table build...

Ben,
the glaze is applied from the can, I use Ace stains and am very happy with them. I have tried 3 others and even though this one cost more, I prefer it over others.

Moji, thanks bro. it should work for poly and water with soap is highly needed specially with poly.

Jay,
looks like it, but applying the final 3 coats of poly will be my challenge...
