Re: My Drill Press Cabinet (52k warning)

made a router bit tray to accommodate more router bits. I used 1" MDF and all I had to do was mark the cuts, set the fence and drill away...

Re: My Drill Press Cabinet (52k warning)

with chisel having alignment problems with his drill press, I thought Id post how I do my DP tune up...
this one is for the chuck and table alignment at 90 degrees to each other....
nothing but a piece of wire (I used a bronze bar) bent twice... chucked to the DP and adjusted so that the other end of the wire is or almost touches the table...

turn the chuck with hand and see the high and low points of the table.

adjust here for the sideways correction and in my case shim front to back if I needed to.

the table is aligned anyway, no need for any correction... it is always best to have your tools working the best that they can, you get the most out of them that way...
cheers

Great that you shared this Timber. Best is of course is a dial gauge though that kind of accuracy is not really necessary. Is this why you were looking for a dial gauge? Usually, I just use a square. I don't usually drill anything thick.

Good tip. Just to point out the probably obvious, the wire or whatever it is that is put into the chuck does not even have to be bent in any particular way. If there are any bends, the bends do not have to be at right angles. The end part of the wire that disappears into the chuck does not even have to be perfectly straight and aligned with the chuck axis.

As long as the the tip of the wire or thing is stationary relative to the chuck (i.e., at a fixed point in the coordinate system of the chuck), rotating the chuck will make the tip trace out a plane that is perpendicular to the rotational axis of the chuck.

Jay, he is a possible fix for your drill-press run-out since we have the same model...

do apply grease at the slot where the screw runs, it is in the spindle shaft...

Re: My Drill Press Cabinet (52k warning)

Timb,

I just tightened it up and lubed it. Seems to take off some slack.

I plan to check all the tools out again when I receive my dial indicator base.

Thanks bro.:)
