Finally decided to build a mirror well this is my first attempt, after jointing and surface planning its on to the table saw to cuts some angle. I decided and elliptical mirror built in mahogany.
Then outlining the elliptical template
Pretty happy with the cuts for me its perfect.
Re: MY First Mirror
Down to the router table to cuts some loose tenon’s
Cut the template outline, boy this wood is pretty dense my band saw give up so I decided to cut it with a jigsaw and for clamping purposes I leave for some dog ears.
Re: MY First Mirror
Rehearse my clamping strategy before gluing up.
After the glue sets just remove the dog ears then back to the router table with fence remove and with a 1/2” pattern bit I carefully route the edges.
Re: MY First Mirror
Then round over the edges.
After a couple of sanding.
Re: MY First Mirror
The back I used a ¼” slot cutter did this in 2 pass.
Just going to order the mirror and stain it a bit and its ready to hang.
Re: MY First Mirror

Re: MY First Mirror
Sure Timb and Ossie but I guest I will be able to finish this next week, but I’m considering another option as I inspect the mirror I realized aside from hanging just a little imagination and I can build a drawer for it , let see what can I come up with maybe tomorrow I can work on it. Thanks guys.
Re: MY First Mirror
pulidong pulido gawa 🙂
also once finished pls tell us how many man hours were involved for this project
Re: MY First Mirror
Got to improve my mirror I decided not to hung it, yesterday I got chance to modify it, here’s what I come up with. Create a patent to hold the oval mirror then cut it on the band saw.
Smoothing the edges using a belt sander
Test Fit
Round over the edges to lighten the looks. It really helps to have a router with a variable speed with this large bit its very dangerous so need a push block for safety.
Re: MY First Mirror
Cut the final height, this needs to be cut precisely or you end up with a leaning post so it’s the job of wixey.
In order for the mirror to pivot I need a pivoting screw but the hardware suggested that I use this type of screw.
Re: MY First Mirror
Not bad maybe to permanently attach it have to use an epoxy just to make sure it handles the stresses.
Got to make sure if the mirror is balance
Need to fabricate a thumbs screw.
Re: MY First Mirror
Kengkoy ang itsura parang mister Potato head he,he,he.
Notice the board its standing on that’s the backer board of the mirror and it gives me an idea on how I’m going to build the base, Maybe next Saturday I can easily finish this project.
Re: MY First Mirror
I Finally had a chance to work on my mirror last Saturday and decided to built a base luckily a have a cocobolo (mulawin) lying around so build the base out of cocobolo
Cut the shape I want on the band saw, just a little bit shy on the line.
Sanding it down to the line.
Re: MY First Mirror
Pre assemble to check if its pleasing to the eye.
Come back to the table saw to form rabbet this technique is called nibbling , medyo tinamad ako I setup and Dado.
Cut the two contrasting wood at the band saw, Mahogany and cocobolo mirror, how much would it cost if I were to sell this, hmm.
Test fit again needs some feet.
