Hi, been here for a while but mostly browsing and viewing. At last!!! I had the chance to have my own small place to work and the opportunity to apply what I learned from your posts.

So I decided to change my old and small computer table built from a few pcs of 3/4 plywood.

into something bigger and with storage space. Sorry don't have pictures from the start but this is still unfinished with only the table top and carcass made. Still need to make the drawers but decided to try it out after putting sanding sealer. Full extension drawer slides will be used

Table top is 3/4 ply and 3/8 ply ( 1/2 here when you buy it ) glued and edge banded. The rest are made using 3/4 ply..

I want the finish to be dark brown. Can I use wood stain and if yes what color? Looking for advise. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

unique ang design mo bro, simple, ganda!!! mas maganda sana kung nauna ang staining kaysa sealer para magpenetrate ang wood stain sa kahoy, pero pwede pa rin sya.

Re: My first project - a computer table

you can use dark mahogany if you like it dark with a hint of red. for me, plywood veneer is just too open grained and would prefer a paint so I can get the smoother finish. I tried staining my plywood desk and with so much stain it looked painted. save the pain and go direct to paint (you do have to apply putty for a smooth finish). but of course that is my opinion...
Nice work, for a first project that looks way better and more complicated than mine... congrats

@fortnapz

thanks, this design was not the original intention but I always prefer having an open space under the sides of the table top. this way I can hide my regulator, power strips and other things and be accessed easily without reaching under the table.

from my previous desk, all I was thinking during this build was how to take things out of my table top, even my coffee cup.

@timber

thanks for the comment and advise. this makes me think again. hope i'll be able to decide when the drawers are done.

I would agree on the unique design, it makes the project a lot better and look to have more value. Try both methods of finishing on plywood scraps and decide from there which suits your taste.

Re: My first project - a computer table

Thank you for the comments.

I can't think of another way to connect the boxes and the table top when i built it. Aside from the storage space, I want to get the feel of the table as early as possible since I really want to check if it will be very comfortable for me. With my line of work, I spend long hours using the computer.
