Re: my special project...lectern build.

then applied poly ( satin ) finish...

I just love the grain patterns! Really inspiring! Anong kahoy ito, bro jonathan?

BTW, I thought screws wouldn't hold well in end grain. How did you address this?

Joey, it would hold well depending on the wood, softer wood will definitely break off easier. pero imho, the screws really offer little more added strength in this scenario. what it will do well is hold the joint tight while the glue dries. the m&t alone is very very strong even if the item gets some abuse.

wwhheeww !!! thanks brad timb...
actually there's no room for clamping those end while gluing, so i anticipated of adding those screws for added strenght, and it really tightens.
firsthand, i thought of adding braces, but with what i saw, i think no need for it.

if i'm not wrong, the wood is kachi yata, imported daw from malaysia, i bought at wilcon,
nag experiment lang ako, the wood is not as hard as compare to our local tanguile,
very smooth lang talaga siya, very easy to plane too...
but i am not assured of it's strenght as the way i see it...comparing to yakal , narra, etc...
you can check it out, if you pass by ar wilcon...

and thanks very much joey...

wait pa brad ng konti, one final coat nalang,
actually yung tops na nga lang ang nilalagyan ko ng final coat.
2 tbsp of poly is what it needed,
1 day ko pa kasi pina-pa-dry...
konti nalang...

why the upholstery ?
next time armand, DIY mo na upholstery, very easy, i tell you...
if you can find genuine leather, that's the best to do...

sana matapos na rin project mo...

Re: my special project...lectern build.

and here you go guys, my finished product...

sorry for the delay, tinapos ko pa yung 3 coats of poly, 1 each day...

needed to dry the poly before the next coat...

and that is for the top only, the base and legs not needed,

satisfied na ko sa pre-finishing...

Re: my special project...lectern build.

I'm a woodworking amateur but I think the choice of wood made a lot of impact on the project's final outcome.

Very very beautiful lectern. God bless you Jon.
