I've been practicing cutting mortise and tenon. I noticed that my chisel handle gets pounded and pounded every hit from the hammer steel head. I've search around for wooden mallet locally to no avail. I decided its time to build my own.
I have this block of wood washed away by typhoon Ondoy, laying around. My idea is to make it just one part no joints.
Using couple of hand tools.
Chisel
Backsaw
hammer
cutter
clamps.
Day 1. I spend almost entire morning staring to this block of woods, I have no idea how to start. Then I decided to cut 4 corners leaving a square in the center for the handle.

I think you will still have to trim it more pa to a more comfortable state, you might get some wrist sprain and muscle cramps when in use for a longer period of time.
Any idea what type of wood is that ? just curious bro !

Your right rosy still more work to do, I tried it and it hurt my wrist. I'm going to try building a jig for my router to turn this mallet into this.
I dunno what wood species but its heavy, its a debris from the flash flood.
