Hi Bong,

The router is one of the most versatile power tool you can have. It's applications are vast and almost limitless. But Mr. Timber is correct in his question: "What do you have in mind?"

Re: Need Wood work help

Hi,

This is what I have in mind.

I need to make a 4mm routing on the inside of the frame so I can stack these display cases on top of the other like this.

Stacking them will save me space. And it would even look great like you have a detolft cabinet.

I will also be needing laminated wood a 12x12 plywood with black top lamination. I heard last saturday that there is a shop in pasig
that makes this board, is it worldclass, did I hear it right.

Well, I had a chance to ask my father to get me a router from the states, but it will still be a month or so for it to arrive.
So for now a good help from our friendly neighborhood would be my next option.

Thanks for responding mga bro.

Re: Need Wood work help

I think I know what you have in mind, but can you post a closer view of the profile that needs routing? seems like a shallow rabbet will suffice.

Re: Need Wood work help

Googled rabbet sorry for the ignorance and yeah I guess it may suffice. What do you use to rabbet the wood. The reason why I thought of the router is that it cuts clean. The wood that I am going to route is already finished and if I rabbet it I might not do a good job on it and ruin the finish.

Re: Need Wood work help

the easiest way to stack them I think would be to drill 4 holes on top and bottom and use dowels. that way the finish is hardly touched. and you can securely stack them securely.

Re: Need Wood work help

This is how my display case look;

As you can see the bottom needs rabbeting so I can stack it on top of the other.
I need to do that so it will not slip when I put it on top of the other casing. It should snugly fit the dimension of the casing.

Of course I need to remove the bump-on before rabbeting.
I like to still move it around so dowel is not an option.

Re: Need Wood work help

finally something we can understand, the sketchup just didn't give us the proper info that acrylic casing is present.
rabbeting will definitely remove parts of the bottom to recieve the acrylic. but besides that, you would still need to do some chisel work to square the edges.

Re: Need Wood work help

Oh no need for chiselling, I am going to build a new frame this time with 2 rabbetted sides so when I tack and glue them together there is no need to chisel. I made this base myself from wood frames. Problem is the finished wood is only rabbetted on one side that is why I need to rabbet the other side. That is the reason why I need a router.

There used to be a sash shop here in Pasay, anybody know any sash shop near Pasay or Makati, maybe I can go there and have it done while waiting of my router.

Re: Need Wood work help

I thought you already had the boxes built when you said you didn't want the finish to be damaged thats why the chisel work. so I now guess that you need your materials to just be rabbeted? bring it over and I can do it for you. is it pre-finished already?

Re: Need Wood work help

I actually do not have a shop, I work at home in a condo in Binondo. I can be reached evenings during weekdays in Paco, near Unilever Phils. I hope you aren't in a hurry, cause I might not be able to do it as you wait...

Hmm Binondo my favorite place to go around to. Lots of interesting things to see. Been there almost every week end. Well no rush YM me your contacts and you can set the time and date.

This is going to be fun and a learning experience. Hope to see the master at work.
