Hi,

Anybody have any experience with this Oregon wood? I've searched online and found out its a pine/douglas fir http://www.timber.net.au/?option=com_species&name=Oregon&Itemid=448

It's only this oregon and armourwood that is sold by Central Lumber Corp. They say it's imported wood from canada. All their wood are imported from abroad as its now prohibited to log here.

Any thoughts or experiences with regards to oregon? Any inputs would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Oregon wood

Hi,I'm a Canadian and although I have never heard of Oregan wood, I am familiar with Douglas Fir. I am from central Canada and Fir hasn't been readily available there for some time now. My father used fir in boat work, for ribs and frames, lasted well, rot resistant, finnished very well, and very strong. Some of the drawbacks were easy to split so drilling was necessary near ends. Very straight grained wood no nice features, depends on the end use. Around water, it was very good, most plywood was fir and of excellent quality, not like here.
Hope this helps a little.

Re: Oregon wood

Hi joe833a, Thanks for your insights. Much appreciated. Great! As its the only cheaper alternative than armourwood, then I'll go for it then. 🙂

For splits in the near ends. Can finally use again my drills that has been dormant for some time. They could use some warm ups. lolz!

Re: Oregon wood

Don't know about "Oregon wood" but "Oregon pine" is a synonym for Douglas fir, according to Wikipedia.

At which store did you see this wood from CLC? What is the selling price and is it treated like their Armourwood product? (I hope not.)

Hi quad, yeah, that's what I found out also that its douglas fir. CLC Cebu. They only have this two types of wood. This oregon then that armourwood. I don't think its treated. As its more cheaper alternative to armourwood.

Sample prices I've inquired for 8' length

Armourwood Oregon
1"x1" 68.40 39.35
2"x2" 187.20 104.00
2"X3" 280.80 156.00
2"x4" 374.80 208.00
2"x6" 561.60 324
1"x4" n/a 112.00 s3s
1"x6" n/a 174.00 s3s

Hope that helps a bit. 😎
