Re: Pinturahan ang lawanit

I'm not an expert in wood painting but if I was going to paint Lawanit then my first choice would be to spray it.

Yup your right Ka Ad Jay,

Spray would be better but how about the Paint roller? Not sure with paint brush though.:)

Re: Pinturahan ang lawanit

You can also use paint rollers on Lawanit panels, its faster and more even compared to brush application. You can even buy rollers with specific designs or texture if you prefer your panel to have some textures.

Anong klaseng mancha ang problema?
Many preexisting stains can eventually bleed through any paint you apply, unless
you prime the affected area first with epoxy, then sand smooth to match the
rest of the lawanit.

Of course, it's cheaper if you just paint to match the color of the offending stain. 😉

Re: Pinturahan ang lawanit

LAWANIT, a kind of building material derived from wood fibers or shavings compressed flat probably with some chemicals or adhesives to form a flat board with one side smooth and the other side rough or with texture. The smooth side is kinda waterproof and the textured side without the glossy coating is the side which is porous. This is how I understand about this material, maybe there is another better explanation or description about this board.

I guess LAWANIT boards before installing as ceilings panels or side partitions panels should first be well primed or sealed with epoxy as probably suggested by bro horge to prevent moisture or water absorption, then paint to a desired finish. Maybe also try to avoid using water based paints to the panel if unsealed.

Well this is just my 2 cents worth of observation regarding this material. ;):)

Re: Pinturahan ang lawanit

As a child growing up in rented house beside a place where they build caskets 😮 (sorry if its a bit morbid..) I have observed and learned the carpenters and builders techniques.

Lawanit is more ply-able than plywood. thats what they use on the distinctive curved cover of these wooden caskets. After the carpentry is done they apply Sanding Sealer on the lawanit on its front and back portion to seal and prevent the fibers from standing. its a good 3-4 coats of the sealer on top with sanding in between. They apply the finish on that with another 3-4 coats till its almost auto finish then buff it to shine.

Hope this helps. 🙂
