Re: Question on Solignum Brown
As a professional finisher I only have a few rules to follow. No mix marriages in mediums. Oil based products have to be finished w/ oil based coatings as in this country the oil tends to move away from the cell cavity towards the surface of the wood due to excessive heat. The problem is oil based finishes are as ever troublesome to use here. Solvents are more ideal and that they adhere to the wood cells more permanently when cured properly. The problem is you may have applied an oil based preservative that's why your painter advised to sand down the wood. If I were in your shoes I would use water based preservatives then dry for 3 days and proceed w/ normal finishing fashion. I haven't come across a good solvent based preservative but if you can that is the best option before any finish is applied. Narra has sap or gum resins that tend to shift your color towards reddish orange or as pale as yellow brown. Solvents react to these resins so you may have to adjust your color choice or use High solids sanding sealer to control this problem. Good luck.
