Hello Masters,
I need help with replacing a door jamb in our kitchen, I also need help with getting the sizes right. DO I have to measure the door's width and length? or it should be door with the jamb size?
I also don't know how to cement the jambs on the kitchen,
I'm also planning to get a molded/ pcw doors? I called doors.ph and they told me that they don't have all weather doors, I thought molded doors are as good as all weather because they had chemicals/resins that protect the wood from chipping?
We recently had our main door jamb replaced by a local and I'm so dissatisfied with the results. The Door sticks to the upper right corner, closing it is stiff and you have push it twice to get the locks in, the lower right is seems to have little space w/c is reasonably not leveled with the door.
i'm also doing research about this and i hope i can get inputs since most of DIY I get are from US, w/c doesn't takes care of the cement. for the door, I guess ill just buy it with a jamb so that i don't have to measure all of them.
thanks!
Re: replacing door jamb
Hello Masters,
#I also don't know how to cement the jambs on the kitchen"
It's not really clear to me what you mean by this. Is that you are not sure how to fix the new "jamb"
If this is the case you need to cut 'plugs' in the mortar joints, chop a piece of timber into a twisted wedge,( using an axe) and hammer that into the slot you have cut in the bwk. (3 should be enough). The twisted wedge sort of screws its way into the chase that you have created, ensuring a tight fit.
Then measure from the rebate of the remaining jamb the width of the door, the thickness of the frame and the clearance between the door and frame, (for both sides). Then cut the plugs off. Make sure the cut surfaces of the plugs are vertically above one another.
Drill holes through the frame to fasten the frame to the plugs, and thats about it.
'You' can then repair the plaster reveals.
Piece of cake eh??
Re: replacing door jamb
Of course it maybe easier to just replace the entire frame!
Or just plane a bit off the door.
