What's a good brand for power tools? I'm also considering buying a second hand drill and circular saw from olx or mybenta, but I'm not quite familiar with these brands.

If you are gonna use it for diy projects occasionally, you can start with possibly reliable
Skil, Black&Decker or Maktec brands. These are the DIY brothers of the heavy duty
known brands like Bosch, Dewalt and Makita. Their power tools are warranted and they
have authorized service centers here in Metro Manila.
:2thumbsup:

Thanks, rosy! I've been seeing Skil a lot and wasn't sure if it was a good brand since I'm only familiar with Black&Decker.

Can I also ask you for advice as to which hand tools to get first? I'm thinking of starting with just small easy pieces like planter boxes for desks, jewelry boxes, etc. using reclaimed wood.

Still can't post a new topic in the Member Introductions thread, I think I need to reply at least 5 times to do that. Getting there, though! 😉

Skil, Maktec and Black&Decker are good brands and great for Diying or home use.

For your cutting needs, you will definitely need a handsaw, a coping saw, a set of chisels.
One or two wood planer. You will also need a drill driver, some wood clamps and a
sanding block. :whistle::agree:

I just bought a Japanese pull saw and 42mm wooden block plane. Tried to look for Stanley No. 5 Jack Plane since that's what everyooone recommends online but couldn't find any.

Planning on getting a Black&Decker Workmate 225, combination square, tape measure, chisels, and 2nd hand drill driver (expensive!!) this weekend.

Will add coping saw, clamps, and sanding block to my list. 🙂
