Nice wood combination Timb..and the design of the box is awesome, very unique specially the one-piece lid cover. Just one observation, the sides of the hinges are showing too, is it the hinges are wide?

good call brader, that is correct. the side of the right hinge blew since the top mortise for the hinge is too close to the edge but it was ok as I gave the box away as a gift anyway.... and is well received.

Re: Show your Quickie Quickie Projects

Today I made this sand paper cutter and framed a 1/2" thick glass.

I spot glued 360 grit up to 2500 grit sand paper using both sides.

I'll see if this scary sharp sharpening method will be effective for me and if not then probably it's time to get some stones. Ouch ...

Re: Show your Quickie Quickie Projects

Unless your blade is extremely dull or nicked, 1000 grit stone should be ok, then strop if you do not have finer stones.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Thanks bro .... I will check the 1k grit stone you told me before.

Just read the manual and saw the video on the Veritas Honing Jig...

The part I'm not sure about is if I need to put a back bevel on the plane blade .... plane newbie here ... LOL

I don't know how to read shavings as an indication of blade sharpness but this is what I got ....at least better than before and the block plane mouth does not seem to get bogged down often with shavings

Re: Show your Quickie Quickie Projects

as a token of appreciation for the gift i had recieved from a brother- in -law,
i decided to make a quickie project,
as a gift naman for the family.
sorry i only took pics of the finished product,
i'm planning to build several of this pieces as a gift for my other sis...
took 3 days to finished...
a day for wood purchase,
1 day for the preparation and constuction,
a day for finishing...

a federal pediment mirror ( WOOD magazine, issue 204 may 2011 )

1/4 plywood backing...

the wood i used is the same ( kachi , available at wilcon builders ) wood i used in my lectern build...

Re: Show your Quickie Quickie Projects

jayL,
yes , good way to start 2012...
na-inganyo ako kay brad rosy.

fact is nahiya ako sa sis ko, dapat for shipment yung items na i odrdered to amazon,
since maliit naman daw, sinama na nya sa baggage.

moji,
hesistant ako at first, baka hindi ko matapos,
madali lang pala talaga gawin.
for a novice like me, it will take 3 days...:blackhair:
but for a pro like timb, it will take 3 hrs...:plane:

thanks!

Re: Show your Quickie Quickie Projects

A little OT but, while we're on the topic of handplaning:

I bought an e-book: The Handplane Book. This book is a gem. Never realized how bara-bara I was with my handplanes. Been reading it for a couple days now and raring to dismantle my old rusty Stanley bench plane.
