Re: Show your wood stash 🙂
Missed it? where? Boat building? I suppose ... but the kind that you can lift with one hand.
Built the below in two days with help of my instructor. It's just a quick and dirty half-scale version of my target build, a traditional (Greenland) kayak, just to get the hang of it.
Actually, WRC or kalantas being hard to get locally could be a good thing. Forcing me to figure out how to adapt cheaper, more readily available materials...
Very nice. Will the hull be in bright-finish?
Rot-resistance may not be a problem since I would assume you will seal your kayak in epoxy?

What bright finish? This is not strip-built but skin ... much faster to build and lighter! 🙂 Ballistic nylon (or polyester) with polyurethane. I had originally intended strip but changed mind on realizing that I didn't have the time or patience for a 400 hour (estimated) build, and when confronted with the advantages of skin.
Lacking WRC or kalantas, unless I'm missing something, next choice of a light wood would seem to be ... pine? Been resisting idea of sealing with epoxy, would prefer to keep the finish natural with oil, but I may yet give in.
Maybe there should be a 'Show your cloth stash' thread sometime?
Sorry, OT by about two degrees of separation now ... maximum allowable is six?
