hello braders...

my medtechs asked me if i can make them a warding tray to contain all materials needed for blood collection whenever they go the wards (hence..warding tray), emergency room,icu etc..

i was thinking of an acrylic glass but i resorted to much easier to dimension and of course our favorite material and that is wood!

the box is about 8" x 14" with a depth of about 3 inches...

out of ripping the 2 x 4's (resaw on TS thread to be continued), i produced an offcuts of roughly 3/8" thick boards..fed to the thicknesser just to smoothen them and to get the final uniform thickness.

set my 1/2" upcut spiral bit to make the grooves/dadoes for the bottom board

Re: small blood collection tray

dimensioned the 1/2" gmelina plank (bottom board) to size via the scms

test fit

fingerjointing is beautiful but i havent made a jig yet so i ended up with mitered corners via the scms

Re: small blood collection tray

was afraid of tear out but surprised to find that the cheap yellow 60T blade produced some awesome miters!

squeezed some yellow glue (found this fine tipped condiment plastic bottle at SM, cheap and it is perfect!)

add a few brads (just 3 on each side) and done

i wanted to try the PYE brand, made in malaysia but this acrylic based Fula tite brand is still half filled purchased in 2005.

Re: small blood collection tray

@jarod,

the gloss of the poly turned out just satin on close inspection due to the weather..it was very damp outside during the spray painting and slowed the curing of the poly.

but i like the way it turned out..

i applied a thin coat of wax and buff it further to produce a light sheen.

dried gmelina is so light..perhaps 30% of the weight when it was fresh.

and very friendly to carbides.

i have omitted a lot of pics for the wips but i hope i was able to document the more important steps in the process.

too bad i only have a 60mm lens.

thanks

Re: small blood collection tray

It's not bad at all, I would assume you're using the 60mm macro?

Great share indeed Doc! Love the cleanliness of the gears, composition and image quality. Would definitely pass for a magazine article. More please 🙂

Re: small blood collection tray

@jarod,

i hope to find a good deal on a el cheapo nikkor 18-55 lens solely for the wips...but i dont want to remove every so often the macro 60mm from the body either...still undecided to get a cheap point and shoot for the wider focal length.

@Timber,

ang ganda talaga ng finger jointing! :jump:

@Jay,

hehe..Good grief i ran out of white acrylic paint.

at least my med tech staff know its solid wood! :jazzybass:

Re: small blood collection tray

Doc, I'm not sure if there such exists a cheap quality P&S good enough for macro work, you really would invest in a good one. Best bet I know in this category is the Lumix LX3 but for that price get a decent lens na lang unless the portability would suffice you other needs.

OT: This is what we don't what to happen... http://www.dchome.net/viewthread.php?tid=1033606

Apparently, his girlfriend bought him the new Nano-Coated lenses (14-24, 24-70, and 70-200 VR2) as an anniversary present but he insisted on keeping his old lenses - which were given to him by his ex-GF. Current GF got super jealous and smashed the old lenses. Unfortunately, all he have now are the 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200

BTT, I hope the med techs would give justice to the workmanship...

Re: small blood collection tray

@timber,

ay malabo na mata ko! mas lalong magaling ang dovetails kung ganun! heehee

@jarod,

with the superb leica dc lens of the lx3, it became a popular back up cam for professional photographers too..but i dont know why until this time i havent got one..with a price difference of 5k for the HD able lx5, id still get the lx3..

its a panasonic with a leica lens..and i simply bow to leica.

will try to check the link for that interesting story.

i am eyeing for the 24-70 kahit sigma na lang with the HSM...but thinking back, i only shooot portraits eh kaya yung 85mm 1.4 lang ang dream ko..kahit sigma..twice kasi mahal ng nikkor.

at the back of my mind, id still probably get the p&s when i have some extras..as i dont want to invite dusts the to the dslr body when changing lenses...dont suggest go grab another body.:sob:
