argus, I started ww in our laundry area in a condo with space that is very limited.

I would suggest you introduce yourself so we can know you better first though. I prefer helping the people I know more than the people I don't... its just me :smoke:

My real name is Jason. I use Argus as screen name, because Argus (son of Arestor), builder of the ship Argo in the tale of the Argonauts where Jason (same name with me) used that ship to look for the Golden Fleece. (nice Greek mythology story :cool:)

I live now in an apartment in Las Pinas, near Zapote with my SWMBO almost a year. But before I lived in Taytay, Rizal. I'm 27 years old and work as computer/technical support in Makati. Just a month ago got interest in ww due to the urge feeling to make our apartment organized. I used to DIY repair our old apartment. There are so many things I need to do just to make things organize.

When I was in grade school, I was exposed to woodworking because our neighboorhood has furniture making. They are very noisy, and really lot of wood dust (kusot) where my mother always ask me to get used to fuel her cooking. Sometimes, i used to watch the wood workers and I remembered they didn't used power tools, mostly hand tools. Like for example, they used miter jig when cutting 45 -degree cut on lumber. But my interest wasn't there yet. It's really just a month ago when I realized I need to create a cabinet to put all our things in order. But I don't have any knowledge how to create one. Actually, I made a simple kitchen cabinet but it's really not a cabinet. It is poorly made. Without any knowledge, I rushed to hardware store and ask for plywood and lumber. I really don't know what to ask. I asked for price of 2x4 ply, and the store agent, was puzzled, she asked her boss, what I'm really looking for, he said that they don't have cut ply only whole which is 4x8. I felt so embarrassed and that's the starting point of my woodworking research. First, I familiarized myself with the different sizes of lumbers, ply and their types. I take advantage my time in office to read all about woodworking. I knew about joineries. I downloaded almost 36Gb of videos and pdf...all about ww...right now my heart and mind is in ww...but I know there'll be more and more hindrances along the way.

i really appreciate any experiences you can share with me in order to motivate and encourage me and those who are starting in ww. Thank you so much.

you just maximize your space, same with what master timber
has done in his ww history.
patience lang ang katapat ng woodworking hobby.
i have made a bookcase out of my cs, a shopmade miter box, a handheld screw driver and some hand tools, my first tools.

and rest was kakulam kulam history...

salamat s encouragement...medyo maliit at masikip ung place nmen kya I try to maximize everything. Actually I have plan in mind, sofa with storage underneath, bed with drawers underneath, hanging cabinets, hybrid laptop table-dresser, etc....but my first priority project now is workbench...

I feel that you're in the right track - you've utilized the web to get as much knowledge/info as you can and this will definitely arm you when doing your projects.. Space should not hinder you from doing your projects - like what sir timb has mentioned - siya nga sa laundry area lang daw nagsimula ngayon isa na sa mga gurus and go to guy when it comes to wood working 🙂

Goodluck sa bago mong hobby and please share your projects kasi we (PHM members) enjoy seeing them.

Ganda nung plans na ginagawa mo - ano program gamit mo chief? parang gusto ko din nyan hehe

thanks sir s pag-appreciate..before I make a project I draw it first..ung s shelf, s papel ko lng na drawing..ung angle measurement nia medyo nag cheat ako...wla ako gnamit n protractor or bevel gauge...tingin lng..ung spaces between shelf may sukat nman..hehehe

minsan nakakatuwa lng..kz paguwi ko ng bahay nkikita ko ung first craft ko...nakakawala ng pagod..

sketchup is a nice software to use, it tells you when a project is doable. are you willing to send me the sketchup file? I find the design quite complicated and unbalanced. You would want a balanced design meaning if you groove one side, you groove the other as well. Or am I looking at the bottom portion of the wb?
I have made a plywood wb out of two pieces of 3/4" plywood, now while it does not have a tail vise or anything, I think it is a very nice and simple first project, solid and heavy too. let me look for pictures and I will post it later. meanwhile can you tell us what tools you have now.

here it is... 2x4 feet plywood workbench... everything including the legs are made of plywood, all you need is a circular saw, a hammer some nails and lots of wood glue.

or must you make them out of solid wood, you can try this design, much simpler and standard workbench configuration....

I agree sir it's quite complicated. and unbalance p...I thougt kz bka magweakened ung lap joints s front...kpg naglagay p ako ng groove s front apron..kya nka butt joint sya...complicated nga...maxado ko kz pinagicpn kya nagiging complicated..thank you sir for that rule of thumb...about balance...I learned something new...

I'm trying to mount on the wall, the back part of the wb to maximized the limited space of my workshop. Because on my first post,the layout of my workshop.. there is 1-foot wide by 1-foot deep open drainage. Just now, i have an idea, what if I cover the drainage just to stand the feet flat on the ground?..so that my design won't suffer and be complicated...

I remembered I watched a video about WB out of ply...just now I think of my first WB to be made out of ply..is it cheaper that solid wood?

your workbench design is a bit complicated..with the files you have downloaded i guess you have a pretty simple wb design if you will just find it..

just make the wb strong and wont rack.

invest in a circular saw now!
