Hi, I've been making camping knives recently but I still have no handle for them. What is a good wood for the handle and where can I get them? I live in QC near UP Diliman. Thanks!
Re: Suggested wood for knife handle
nap, my grandfather use to make knife handles using the guava (white with good grain design) or santol (redish in color) trees ... since your near UP Diliman, then acacia tree will also be a good choice ... i will suggest driving around university circle in UP after a typhoon and look for some broken acacia (yellowish) branches ... when i was studying there, i normally see a lot of acacia branches being piled at the back of the university library near the sunken garden area 🙂 ... cheers

Re: Suggested wood for knife handle
I would suggest using Kamagong or Mulawin (molave) both are ironwoods.
Try this[COLOR="Navy"] Seller from Quezon City.
I know this post is old but I owe you guys an update. Someone gifted me with a 2x2x12 inch piece of narra. I used that and the handle is still looking great after 2 years. Initially I oiled the wood but eventually varnished it.
