Re: timber's second workbench

Why did you use a TS for your dados? Do you find it easier than your router table?

Also, since we're in the topic of workbench feet, is it useful for the feet to have wheels? Do those wheels with step-on lock/brakes work? Or do they just introduce wobble?

[/HTML]

the dadoes were made not by the ts but by the sliding compound miter saw.

it is actually fun and easy to make these dadoes from the scms...just glide glide glide:p

its much tiring in the ts because you push the heavy stock against the blade with a eitehr a miter guide or via sled...could be easier if with a stack dado blade.

Re: timber's second workbench

referring to the thread for making M/T, this is the technique in making tenon on the TS.

I can't do this on my SCMS coz it doesn't have a dedicated depth stop.

Re: timber's second workbench

Nice pictures of the wips Master Timb.

My profiles for the feet were done by my scms with an improvised depth stop, cleaned by chisel and rasp.

Jarod's hands are not busy on the build, parang iba naman ang inatupag eh..buti pa si chisel may proof..:p

another thing pro scms making the dadoes:
you can actually see the exact location of the blade while it is cutting the wood..while in the TS, the blade is being covered by the material as it passes thru it.;)

but of course you need to flatten the grooves made by the regular blade.

Re: timber's second workbench

balarila,
the dadoes are easier to do in the ts and should even be easier on the scms, the router makes a spiral cut while the blade makes an axial cut, it produces faster cuts at the ts. The wheels do work, they should not produce wobble to the wb since they will should be off the floor when not in use.

Doc, those were done on the ts. while it easier to cut them on the scms, I needed the accuracy of getting them to the correct width and depth which I find easier on the ts.

Sorry. I'm a bit slow on this one. What did you mean "off the floor"? Did you have some kind of a jack that gets the wheels off the floor? Much like the cranes on wheeled carriers (e.g. Meralco)?

no, two wheels are slightly higher than the feet of the wb, they touch when the third wheel is lowered raising the wb by about 1mm or more...

Haha, those are timber's idea as I do not want a fake jarod-in-action pic 😀

Next time, hope I could take sample video clips ala Finewoodworking - Pinoy style.
