I plan on making a simple drawer for a project. Pero ang tools ko lang ay largely handsaws and hammers (with the exception of an electric sander). Of the videos I've seen on YouTube, all drawers have a groove on the inside so they can place the bottom plywood in it. Sa mga gumagawa po ng drawers dito, talaga po bang kailangan yung groove na yun? Hindi ko po kasi yata magagawa yung groove with the handsaws that I have.

Bili ka na paet o chisel. Mano-mano mo gagawin yung groove for the bottom plywood. At least that is how I would do it.

No. Those grooves are not required. You can just butt screw the bottom to the side. The only requirement is to allot 1/2 inch gap for each side between the side of the drawer box and the wall where you will place the drawer. 1/2 inch gap is for the drawer slide!

Handsaw and hammer will do, but don't expect a very good result. Quality work need the right tools. The groove or rabbet cut/Daddo joint is a strong joint for drawer bottom. I believe pocket hole is also good all needs speciality toosl.

Chisel a rabbet on a plywood? I think it's difficult for beginner, plus you need a sharp chisel for that matter.

No. Those grooves are not required. You can just butt screw the bottom to the side.

With limited tools (handsaw and hammer) adding screw may suffice, for reinforcement add Elmers wood glue too.

The groove to hold the bottom adds class to your drawer. Agree with the folks here that you can just butt screw the bottom but the groove makes it more professionally done.

If you are using plywood, creating grooves without a power tool would be a hassle. If you want more support for the bottom of the cabinet drawer, line the edges with small piece of would instead of creating groove. I am not into carpentry but that is how I would do it.

yes, buttjoint would be ok enough...you can add glue and a support runner (thin strip of plywood too) glued to the edge of the drawer bottom and sides. can you picture it? after, you can sand the finished drawer with your electric sander.
