What tool that is not so expensive can I get to cut a nice 45 degrees. I will be making small wooden boxes.

My only option as of now is to use a shooting board which I plan to make this weekend. But I would prefer a power tool that is not too noisy like my circular saw coz I just live in a apartment.

I would appreciate if you can include the price of that tool even just the rough estimate if your unsure.

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

A power tool that is less noisy than circular saw would be a router using 45 degree bit. But i guess shooting board is the best option.

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

How about using a belt and disc sander? I saw a ryobi brand in sulit and its within my budget. I can just sand it instead of cutting it. I think it can be done but I have no experience on it. Any ideas on this tool? My wood are mostly 1/5" thick less. Rarely use 3/4" thickness but I think the sander can still do it..

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

I've made my mind. I'm going to invest to a table saw.. Mas marami kasi akong magagawa. I might just end up buying a lot of tools kung iba pa kukunin ko. kapag table saw kasi magagawa ko na din ng madali ang box/finger joint. makakapag cut pa ko ng square.

Anyone of you have seen/tried/owned a ryobi table saw? Kaya po ba nito 4x4 wood? Accurate po ba? May mga nakikita kasi ako sa sulit at mukhang eto lang kaya ng budget ko, May nakita ako ozito pero di ko type yung table nya.

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

i thought you want a quiet power tool because you're living in an apartment. Anyway Table saw is the best tool for the projects you plan to make. Once you have a table saw there's no turning back na talaga sa woodworking and you won't settle until you have completed your shop. That's what we call here the "kulam".

Just read back from the forums (use "Search" tab above) about table saws, there are plenty of topics here for that subject.

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

hahaha! Natawa naman ako sa kulam. Now my mind is changing again.. LOL, di po ko babae (just kidding).. Hirap magdecide eh.. Ganun ba talga kaingay ang table saw? well naiingayan ako sa circular saw ko.. so baka mas maingay pa nga ang table saw.. nakakahiya kasi sa mga kapit bahay..

Nakakabaliw magisip. Hirap kasi ng walang dedicated na space for my projects. Ang meron lang ako yung terrace sa labas ng room ko.. maybe I should take a pic.. para magkaidea din kayo. Anyway, all I want is to make a good 45 degree and dead square cuts.

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

Bro doms,

Most woodworking tools run by electricity are kinda noisy or loud, similar to metal working electric tools such as chop saws, angle grinders, even portable band saws, etc etc.

For your purpose, best will really be a table saw or a sliding compound miter saw where you will just rest your piece to be mitered on the table or flat surface and let the blade to the cutting. Yes I guess you can use the belt sander as well but you might not be able to achieve a perfect and uniform 45 degree bevel or miter cuts. But really you will just have to be content and accept the noise these power tools will make, similar with your circular saw. :p

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

@ doms,

I just remembered, this is an option, you can use a jigsaw with features that can be adjusted from side to side to make 45 degree angle cuts, lesser noise than the big cutting saws. :chopper:

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

@Rosy: Thanks for the advice. I just borrowed a jigsaw from a friend and will try your suggestion. I was also able to create a shooting board this weekend and was able to create a 45% angle. And boy it was hard. or maybe my first shooting board is not that good. Maybe I'll create a newer and better one.

The reason for the 45 degree angle was to make a simple joinery for small boxes.. I have read and watched a lot this weekend and seems that the routers have bits made specifically for joinery. I am thnking of getting a router instead. But I have to look for a router table first.. anyone there selling? (I cant access the ads section for some reason.. I dont know why..)

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

Bro Joey, sayang patapos na bandsaw ko he he...this mod has a wider throat but small cutting depth. Pwede to, two bearings lang kelangan for my old Skil jigsaw. But now im having a bandsaw very soon, conversion into scroll saw would be very nice.

Re: Tool for cutting 45 degrees

Nice one! May nagbebenta ba dito? It's from Germany and I dont know any services like JAC/POBOX that ships from germany to ph. If I ship this via LBC or like, I might get crazy customs fees (you guys sure know what I mean..)

Bro! di mo na kailangang bilhin talaga yan. Kung may jigsaw ka. Like Bro Armand said, dalawang bearing lang kailangan mo.

@ Bro Arman! Thanks sa link. maybe someday i-DIY ko ang jig na ito.
baka pwedeng gamitin ito.
