Re: turntable workbench
today, I had to attend to several things and had to buy some tools to help me in this build. but I did get some work done...
Chose the hardest and densest wood I have in stock, cut them to pieces and started handplane work. first I got them to the correct thickness and width.
had to remove a lot, enough to fill a trash can, now that the loose tenon is in proper size, I can round off the corners.
and they do fit tight, it actually pops when you pull them off.
tomorrow I cut them to size and get some other work done...

Re: turntable workbench
what? I forgot to take pictures of them? 😮
well I did the stretchers, cut the tenons to size and dry-fitted them with the legs. looks like this now...

Re: turntable workbench
today, I managed some work on this...
started by laying-out the lines where I need the hold down screws to be...
drilled a hole a little more than 1/4" deep with a forstner bit (it is for the screw head to be recessed)
then I drill a second hole (10mm) that will go thru for the screw to pass.
all done.

Re: turntable workbench
now, I installed the stretchers in place, making sure everything is squared. then with the hole already in the leg, I use it as a guide and drill through the stretcher.
and deepen the hole on the stretcher...
the stretchers then get another hole on the bottom portion to receive the nut.
square the end...

Re: turntable workbench
and finish the cut...
the screws are 5" long so make sure you got the correct depth...

Re: turntable workbench
assembly naman should be straightforward... the screw goes thru..
and is caught by the nut on the other end...
make sure there is a washer on both ends.

Re: turntable workbench
two ends now installed...

putting it back, it still fits... 🙂

Re: turntable workbench
three projects at the same time kaya medyo na delay ng konti...
time for an update...
rounded all the corners on the rt...
sanded the feet arcs clean...
cut the cross members and rounded too. the stretchers gets rounded on two corners only since it will get arabbeted pa...

Re: turntable workbench
no glue yet, still need to decide whether I use plywood for the shelves or slats...
but it is solid, sat on one of the stretchers, can carry my weight... 69kls.
I have also added the cross members for the stretchers...
so far everything is in correct position, correct measurement and proper alignment and squared...

Re: turntable workbench
Looking great Timber. One question: why don't you use a mortising jig with a router?

Re: turntable workbench
Actually I was thinking of a homemade one.
Yeah a thicknesser is one of my "indispensables". Just used mine the other weekend.
Re: turntable workbench
update tayo ng konti.
got both shelf rabbeted and the center piece cut(decided on plywood since it won't affect the strength and durability). glued and clamped...
from here I need to shave the excess to level the corners flush...

Re: turntable workbench
started by handplaning across the grain with my trusty no.5 stanley(handplane).
when I am about half a mm to the plywood level, I stop.
and continue with a no.4 (smoothing handplane)
