Hey guys! I'm looking to get into woodworking as a hobby. I've already built a passable workbench with 2x4s, plywood, and a mounted 5-inch bench vise, and I'm looking to get into other projects.

Where can I find reasonably-priced wood in Metro Manila? I'm not yet 100% hip to the terminology and nuances, but I'm looking for "smooth" wood, or s2s/s3s/s4s, in planks that are at least a foot wide. I'm also looking to try out a variety of locally available woods, from palo china/pine to mahogany to tanguile (and later, kamagong and narra).

Thanks for your time! Glad to have finally signed up after weeks of lurking.

Your local hardware stores will most likely be the first ones you'd be looking into. That and some scrap yards or junk shops that sell scrap wood or if your lucky there are some resellers of pine crates that have been reprocessed in Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City or reclaimed wood in Dapitan St, in Manila. Good luck!

Thanks, Willy! Will look into these leads.

I've been looking around, pugonarug, and I've found a few leads of my own.

Silangan Lumber in Marikina sells kiln-dried yellow meranti.

Ace Builders sells lauan supplied by Timberco (or was it Timberex?)

There are a few sellers on Sulit, like oninserboi (in Bulacan), Goldenwood, and a newish account under Delmar Woodworks. I have them bookmarked on a different computer, but they should be fairly easy to search for.

I read an older post by Armand that suggests a place called South Island Lumber in the Cainta area, would you guys know if this place is still open? Thanks!

Yes Bigote, South Island is still very much open..a lumber/hardware store along Imelda avenue is also selling mahogany and tanguile, the name of the store is Hok Lumber.

Hey guys, i am also a beginner woodworker five years ago and was in your situation looking for wood sources..my frequent trips to Taytay Rizal has improved my list. I still have kamagong and teak in my shop just waiting for the right project.

Search also the thread about Policarpio Second Hand real real hard woods in Taytay, i used to get my narra and yakal there when I was still hooked to jewelry box making.

There's a guy in that area that used to have a sash factory. His name is Ronald. He still has some hardwood left that he wants to get rid of. He might give you a good deal if you take everything (not that many). He's a nice guy. He closed shop and sold his machines because the Barangay on that side of Commonwealth doesn't allow furniture making at that area anymore. They can still display and sell their stuff, but they can't make them there anymore. I know this information is late. I just stumbled on this thread because i'm looking for lumber suppliers myself. I hope it helps.

Guys, what's the cost per board foot at those stores you mentioned? I'm just looking for ordinary hardwood that i can use to make furniture. Nauru and yakal are too expensive for my skill level.

Bumping this thread. I'm just a newbie here and I'm looking for hardwood retailers of durable woords like tanguile. I'm gonna go and make some whole bar stools for my small resto. Contacted already Filtra but I'm looking for more optons since Filtra's is pretty far away from Laguna. Any stores within Manila/QC or in any area going south that would be selling hardwood? Any suggestions aswell on what other hardwoods would be durable and sturdy for a chair/bar stool? Thanks 🙂
