Hi All, ok I am trying to figure out where and how to buy timber here in Manila. i am used to just going to a supplier and picking the stuff I want myself.
This seems not to be the way here, (why?)
Anyway the question remains where to buy both soft and hard woods? I am staying in Pasay.
Any help gratefully received.
Re: where to buy timber
There's a huge lumber yard in Sucat. It's near the toll gate. After entering Sucat from Manila, turn right and you'll see it after PSBank. They sell softwood, hardwood and plywoods. They evan have pre-built doors and jambs. plus wood panels for windows. I'll get the name and exact address if i pass by the area.

Hi Frankboase,
As you know, there is a national log ban in effect as of last year so Local and exotic wood are very scarce. You'd be lucky to find a dealer who will sell you Narra or special hardwood. There are imported lumber dealers around selling wood from other parts of Asia such as Malaysian Cherry, imported Mahofany and Indonesian Teak. Just browse around the ads and you will stumble upon these Importer/Dealers. There are wood specialists that also import wood from the US and Africa like myself but we use them for our contracts. Try to get in touch with Formaply @ 3730303 and look for Inday should you need to buy US imported lumber such as Red Oak, Maple and White Ash. Just tell her I was the one who gave you her number. For local softwood there are many Lumber dealers you can get them from such as the store in Taytay called Jarmin Trading. Good luck.
Re: where to buy timber
willyfernando,
As I have written elsewhere, I'm new here in Phils. so no I didn't know about this "national log ban", I suppose to try and stop illegal logging(?).
Thanks for your other details, I shall contact Inday
It seems as well that the yards are not open to the public. Is this the case?
So where in Manila to buy decent hardwoods?
A very local hardware store keeps a small quantity of Tahini (?) and Pine, the pine is good, is Tahini considered a good timber?
Regards Frank

Formaply has New Zealand Pine and other furniture grade species. Ask Inday for a tour in their yard. Get a good lumber grader when buying local wood. If you need Local Hardwood PM me your number and I will guide you where to buy. "Tahini" is unfamiliar. Importers will sell anything as long as it's wood. Be careful w/ those w/c are so dense and acidic. Solvent and H2O finishes react w/ them and they are a pain w/ fasteners (nails and screws). I have IROKO, a west african specie good for furniture and outdoor use. You can google details of it. I also have American Black Walnut and White Oak. I am a Furniture maker and lumber importer but most of the wood we have are being used for our projects. I can spare you w/ a few stocks if you need them. Good Luck!:plane:

try jecar trading.. look for ryan. we used to have tangile ( lots of it) but if you want really cool wood grain try loking for casti de roma ( olive green, maroon and dark grey in color.. yes 3 colors in a single plank) , it's available here in iloilo i'm not sure if it's available in luzon
