Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

As I said, I got he LAST couple of cans, from shangrila branch, an at 50% disc. :bounceD: Sorry, can't help my gloat.

As for your ceiling, do you plan to spray or brush? Ace has a water-based poly for quicker drying, their oil-based is also good, there are a lot of choicest aside from BLO.

Do you still plan to stain your ceiling? You can also mix a stain with poly/varnish and apply. DOn't worry too much about the BLO, wih your ceiling at 12 ft high, the BLO might be the least of your concern.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

so you're the one who cleaned up their stocks:vacuum:.

I plan to use brush, and since BLO is hard to find I'm scratching it out from my plans. I won't be staining it anymore, I just want the natural color of the wood to be retained.
Is it OK if I just use poly after I treat the ceiling with Solignum?

What would be better, water-based or oil-based poly?:thanks:

Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

Hi there beedigo,

HE HE HE HE, there,s that "BLO" abbreviations again, remember bee ? BOILED LINSEED OIL !!!!

Have you sanded your ceiling bee ? Toss coin mo na lang whether its water base or oil base poly, I think if water base, when applied then dried, the finish will appear the same, natural but with oil-based poly when applied then dried, medyo darker yata lalabas. Hope I'm right ?????

Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

@ rosy, hehehe:D...

In that case, it would be better for me to use water-based poly so not to darken my ceiling and lesser odor.
I'm also thinking of using Boric acid instead of Solignum for treatment as what guad said in the other thread.

What do you guys think?

Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

poly will make it nice and shinny but will not change its current appearance. Blo is a nice option while it was available but in the absences of it, I would suggest you try Sadolin Hardwood Oil. There are 2 variants, Teak and Natural and I would suggest teak for you just so you would end up in a more even color. Unfortunately it is oil based and it smells and takes a while to dry. goodluck on your ceiling work....

Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

@ sir timber,

Is the Sandolin hardwood oil a woodstain?
Won't the teak hardwood oil make the ceiling more darker?:thanks:

@ sir jonathan,

I really want to start the finishing for a long time now, I'm just having a hardtime with the BLO.
But now that I have another option, I hope I can start sooner not later.

Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

beedigo, Sadolin is a wood oil that would preserve and enhance the color a bit by a shade darker.

Check this for more info -> [COLOR="Blue"]Sadolin Wood Oil

Re: Wood Ceiling Finishing

Thanks masters. By the way, where could I get the Sandolin wood oil?
If it's not to much to ask, do have sample pictures of the container? TIA
