i had a dowel made from a sash along common wealth..... malapit sa commonwealth toyota, same side as toyota. but cant quite recall if its before or after toyota, its definitely before petron i think

I assume you had a long dowel made, intended to be cut into shorter pieces. Curious to know how accurate and consistent they were able to make the dowel. For example, for 3/4" (19.05 mm), what was actual diameter and variation across length of dowel?

Did they use some kind of jig to ensure constant diameter?

several sash factories usually have that dowel making machine which can bring out consistent sized dowels, having said that I cannot tell you if it is 0.0000001 mm accuracy since wood does move and it can change size with the temperature and climate any time.

Pardon me hijacking this thread. I too am looking for a sash factory. I live in Antipolo closer to Marikina. I'm thinking of cutting a 3x16x12 plank into 3 or 4 thin slices. Any shops out there in my area who'd have the saw and the patience to carefully do this? Thanks.

Guad, i asked for 3/4 and they gave me something a couple of mm wider and the "roundness" is not perfect, i doubt they used a jig and most likely did it by hand and feel on the lathe.

variation across the length... ummm i cant tell, coz ive cut them to size na.

I was going to use the dowels for the dog holes. Which work well after a few run with the spokeshave 🙂

Sounds even worse than I thought, like arnis sticks. Not even round? How did they manage that feat with a lathe.

It's OK. That happens to be 10e-10 meters a.k.a. one angstrom, which is about the size of the smallest molecule. At that scale, according to Mr. Heisenberg, no one else can either, and if they claimed to be able to, they would have almost no idea where the wood is.

Me, I just shoot for about 0.1 mm accuracy, which is reported to be about the tolerance of joints. Easy to remember, being only one decimal place on the digital caliper. This is about 100,000 medium-sized (10 angstrom) molecules.

Bakit po ba tinawag na SASH factory.... ano po ibig sabihin nun?
Kasi po yung lolo ko sa bohol ang nakalagay lang sa naaalala ko eh furniture maker...
bakit ngayon meron na talaga SASH and Furniture...:confused:

^ I believe sashes are the "hamba" or the wood that you fit into the wall where the door goes. Yung border. Maybe because it's so big that a maker will have to have a tablesaw and jointer (often a home-made one.)

Fwiw, there's a signage in the tagaytay area that says: "We make furnitures and antiques." hehehe 😉 😉

sashes I know are the legs of the staircases Owyn, mostly turned... I could be wrong though 😀
