kala ko butcher block gagawin mo...eh plain chopping board lang po pala...pero di ba humahawa ang narra? pag flat board kasi mas mabilis yata pumurol yung edge ng knife..kaya ideally butcher block...end grain block.

napagtripan ko lang gawin nung Friday, tinapos ko na rin the same day wanting to see what I need to be watchful of when I decide to make thicker and wider ones. and with this small piece, I did learn lots since this wasn't done the same way as the woodwhisperer but is a worthwhile experience. I will be on the look-out for my materials soon to make some for Christmas gifts and for sell too.

@Violaine, experiment muna sa finish sa mas mallit na kahoy. At least I know now from Timber na I should use mineral oil. My experiment also shows na yes, kumakatas yung Narra, yellowish pag ni rinse sa water. Ang ginagawa ko kasi, sand, wash, oil... tingnan ko sa 3rd washing kung may katas pa... salamat din sa comment / payo
@Master Timer... pabili na lang ng chopping block, mga 18" x 24" na 2 inches thick... 🙂

oks bro! next eb..turuan mo kami nyan ha...yung inlay technique.
sander lang ba ginamit mo? kasi di ubra ke 2012NB yan hehe..
mas ok daw jointer pag butcher block kasi pantay pantay lahat at square pero bilib ako sayo kasi kahit wala jointer pikit na pikit ang mga joints!
so titebond II ba glue niyan?

yes titebond II gamit ko dyan, handplaned yung jointed pieces before they got cut to smaller ones. flattening done on the 2012nb brader but, it did have a sacrificial edge kasi kakainin ng thicknesser yun....
seems like a good day bukas to have an impromptu eb if you guys are up to it.... sarado ang court so we have the place to ourselves. If any of you are interested we can arrange it, kaya lang dapat at least apat tayo para sulit. I can teach some chopping board tips.

Mga sirs,
Palagi akong nakakita ng sangkalan na nasa kariton, lalo na sa Divisoria. Sabi ng vendor, sampalok daw iyon. Kelangan pa bang i-prep ito, like sand, apply food grade natural oil, then repeat the process, several times?
