Hi,
Last Saturday I scouted for a new door.
Option A
Regular Wood
Door panel - 2900php
Jamb - 1100php
Option B
Tanguile Door panel 3300php
Yakal Jamb - 1800php
Regular wood Jamb - 1600php
Are the prices good and not over priced? I would like to try the Tanguile and yakal option.
thanks
Re: Wood type for Doors
solid panel door comes in at three common sizes depending on the width but a fixed height and that is 210cm i think.
for the width, the narrowest will be 70cm, then 80cm then 90 cm..
in nueva ecija, the 80cm solid panel door, now mostly gmelina will be around 2400p and that is sundried.
for kiln dried tanguile, yes it could be around 3000p and up.
better choose yakal for door jambs on or near wet areas (CR/Kitchen)..and they fetch around 1200p and up for a 80cm wide jamb.
depende din sa quality of woodwork...if you look closely sa routered corners, if the blade is dull and or if the wood has some wild grains, some fuzzy wood fibers will be seen and if these are not sanded, then the quality of the wood door is thumbs down.
solid panel doors that are ready made inside Wilcon or elsewhere can be cheap or expensive..
btw, i saw imported surplus doors sa HMR, 2900p each...very nice!

Re: Wood type for Doors
accdg to my contractor and carpenter, wag lang mahogany. because mahogany has tendency daw to "breath" ie expands and contracts depending on the weather.
also decide on thickness. 35 mm or 40 mm ata ang usual.
Re: Wood type for Doors
I'd go for option B.
400 php difference on the door and 700 php on the frame is well worth it. Not sure what "Regular Wood" is. Might be lauan which in itself is satisfactory but then again what is lauan's price per board feet compared to tanguile or yakal.

All the doors in my house are made of mahogany. The exterior doors do exhibit "breathing". I had to plane some doors. But the indoor ones (e.g. bedroom doors) are ok. That's 8 years ok. And I love the grain of oiled mahogany.
Re: Wood type for Doors
balarila,
addedum: my contractor and carpenter did say mahogany would be better suited for interior doors. and like you, i love the grain of mahogany. 🙂
Re: Wood type for Doors
sir ding me pic ka ba ng itsura ng oiled mahogany for interiors? i'm quite curious on how the overall effect is for an interior door.
if mahogany is good for bedroom doors, and yakal for toilet and kitchen, what would it be for a front door?
