Re: Woodworking Newbies
i remember the other day when i was with Timber and having a good time with his monster scrollsaw where a foot switch turns the machine on..
its difficult to control two hands to work in sync..what more if you add a foot?
i certainly believe no router master will ever recommend a foot switch for a router on a table.
btw..i do woodwork in the morning when everything is fresh and cool...my brain is too tired after work in the lab.
@jay,
i saw in one your pictures you were making long (possibly 24") dadoes..where has it gone?
better to make a dado jig...mahirap mag set up ng 4 na clamps and two fences just to make a dado and set it up again the next time..but of course you need a mortising bit.
yes i have a stack dado blades but then again, its pain to set up if for only for a few dadoes..but i know time will come i will make use of it...at least i know that i have the blades.

Re: Woodworking Newbies
@V I've seen your dado jig and looks very functional. I hope you post some pics here for newbies to have an idea on how it's used. This is something I keep putting off to build and often I always regret the procrastination when the time to setup straight edges for dado cuts arise.
Here's a good newbie adjustable mouth block plane that won't break the bank. It needs a bit of tweaking but it will do a good job for the price paid. Lapping the sole on sand paper, taking off some rough casting edges, adjusting the blade alignment lever and lastly blade honing.

I'm beginning to like this tool. Helps take off high spots unreached by the block plane prior to sanding.
A Wood Rasp
Here are two of the most useful layout tools in the wood shop. The 12" combination square and a 4" double square. Can be used for checking squares ( 90 deg ) and angle ( 45 deg ) as well as for making repetitive measurements. Get the good ones.

More drawers for the shop ... the fast and easy way .... butt joints.
that bottom drawers are for this shelf ... the shelf is not maximized thus the addition of drawers
don't need lot of tools to build simple projects ... if you're still on the tools acquisition stage ... take the tools buying one step at a time but try to get the better ones and raise the budget a notch up.
meantime this will do while on the saving stage
so you ask yourself what do you need to get started ...
here are some tips

Re: Woodworking Newbies
This will be a very nice and very interesting thread specially for the hundreds of woodworking lurkers and newbies trying their hands on woodworking. I myself would like to do some stuffs with wood but still not sure where to start or what wood project to begin. May be with the creation of this thread, we newbies, can start posting simple and small projects for starters and possibly get substantial guidance from the veteran woodworkers here.
GO GO GO bro JayL, KUDOS to you on this thread !!!!! 😀 :attack:
Bro ... please do post some info whenever you come across anything interesting for newbies. Lots of lurkers here. I even met a few who come to my shop to visit, buy or trade on some of the stuff I put on ads from time to time. I did urge them to post their works too. I opened this thread specifically for them hoping they join and be active in participation.
This is a newbie thread on woodworking so anything goes ... we're here to learn.

This is a good countersinking bit ...
testing first on scrap always
splinters if you ram the bit down ... take it easy and gently for a cleaner cut
Learn to read screws ... this is not a Philips screw but a Pozi Drive screw .... use the proper driver bit to prevent cam out
