Anyone interested to enroll or maybe help out?

First of all, I’m planning to do this on Saturdays… most probably Makati area. Thinking of doing it 8am to 12nn. So that everyone can still do their own thing in the afternoon.

Will cater to beginners, a project-based workshop. Every session, students get to take home the item they built in the class.

Here’s the schedule plan:
1st Saturday of month : Beginners Woodworking – simple projects that will make students appreciate the craft and learn the basics of woodworking
2nd Saturday of month: Beginners Power Tools – projects focusing on the use of the featured power tool
3rd Saturday of month: Beginners Power Tools or Intermediate-Advance Woodworking (more serious projects)
4th Saturday of the month: Paint and painting techniques (and other wood finishing techniques)

In all beginner workshops, all wood will be pre-cut. Basically will teach how to assemble, there will be cutting but minimal. This will avoid exceeding the 4-hour schedule. Also, at the end of the workshop, built projects aren’t painted. Because that will take another few more hours. Also reason why Finishing techniques have its own schedule.

For the Power Tools, will be mostly router and jigsaw projects. I’m also thinking of saw workshops… but this will be for the advanced students. Or at least students who wants to go further than having the wood prepared for them.

No idea how much workshop fee, yet. As I still don’t know how much the materials cost. Plus I will still have to negotiate studio rental fee. 😉

Here’s the help that I need:
• I would like a 1:1 student:tool ratio. I have joined a workshop where we shared all the tools (there were 4 of us), and a 2 session workshop extended up to 6 because it took a long time to wait for our turns. I want to avoid that. The thing is, I only have one tool… anyone knows if there is somewhere that I can rent power tools for a day? Although that will add up to the workshop fee. =( Any suggestions ?

• Any suggestions, comments on the plan?

Thanks all! 🙂

Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Haven't done any scouting for suppliers and studios, yet. But I hope as well that I will be able to offer it at a reasonable price. Will be posting something again if everything goes well as planned.

Sir timber715, I will call you soon.

Salamat!

Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

at least someone has finally come out for the love of wood.

just like in photography class, it might be better for the students to have the "basic" woodworking tools before coming to class and i suggest, the first saturday be about these "basic" tools.

calling sponsors! sponsors! sponsors! LOL

Bringing of own tools would be easiest for me. But you know woodworking, you don't use just one tool per project. Imagine you bringing a drill, a router and jigsaw plus a few hand tools. Kawawa naman especially if wala dala sasakyan yung workshop trainee. Hihihi!

Yup, basic tools will be tackled in the first course.

Oo nga, sana may mag sponsor. Hindi lang tools, but also a place. Grabe I was looking for commercial spaces for lease. Namamahalan ako since I'm starting from scratch. The going rate is monthly. Super lugi naman yun for me kasi every Saturday lang naman and won't really be using it for the rest of the week. Anyone want to share with me? Gawin nating showroom. Hehehe.

Ah ok, gets. Yeah, hand tool pwede dalhin. Although I will not really teach with hand tools kasi kahit ako hindi ko kaya yun. I will never have the patience to woodwork with just hand tools. Hahahaha!

Pre-cut as in wood are cut to size, planed, straight and square. The joinery, syempre trainee ang gagawa.

Bakit naman? I will let them try how to work with just hand tools just for the sake of trying it. Why would I promote just hand tools when you can do more stuffs with power tools. Mas mabilis na, mas precise and accurate pa (at least for beginners).
