Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

Bakit naman? I will let them try how to work with just hand tools just for the sake of trying it. Why would I promote just hand tools when you can do more stuffs with power tools. Mas mabilis na, mas precise and accurate pa (at least for beginners).

I am a pro-woodworker/contractor and I have noticed that people with poor or little knowledge of hand tools are worst working with power tools. I guess it's because they have failed to develop their inner skills and good temperament. Dapat may built in desire and patience especially with hand tools. May pinanggagalingan na basis why they need to elevate their skills to using power tools. Also some projects can't be worked on simply by using power tools. Doon lumalabas ang tunay na woodworker in them. If you noticed, a lot of would be DIYers buy their power tools on impulse later only to discover they don't have the patience to work on their supposed projects once they've analyzed the complexity of their build. Pffft...power tools for sale!:D Hand tools start the fire in you and power tools fuel it more. Without a spark to ignite it what good is your fuel? Just my 2 cents.:old:

Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

Hey, I still enjoy seeing people, woodworkers at that, finish a wood project using only hand tools and are really good at it. POWERTOOLS only augment or help make woodworking faster and perhaps easier. In wood working, there is still what you call the " ART OF HAND TOOLING " and this command a better price in the market commercially speaking because you will really be amazed at how these wood projects have been put together, assembled and finished. Plus perhaps knowing the dedication and expertise of these woodworker/carpenters using only hand tools .

So just continue with your plan on the basics of woodworking using only hand tools, anyway this will just be a first step hopefully to a more successful Woodworking Workshop in the future. :waltz:

Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

I get your points sirs. But understand that this is a project-based-four-hour-workshop, with at least four trainees per session. If we use solely hand tools, no projects will be finished at the end of the class. That's why the plan is to teach woodworking using power tools.

Kung yung trainee willing to enrol for the whole year na parang full course, pwede pa siguro yung ganun, talagang umpisa sa pinaka basic. Or like nung pinopropose dati ni sir Timber715 kay darrrling na 3day worshop. But for the one I plan to offer, for the first few months talagang iba ibang batch per month. Then maybe kung maganda ang response saka ako mag develop ng special and more in depth course sa talagang gusto matuto.

Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

Ellieces,
You have to know how to use these handtools properly to teach other on how it is properly used. Same for powertools.
Having said that, projects can be made with either hand or powertools alone, but I myself prefer the compromise of using both in projects. The ease and accuracy of powertools does compliment very well with the finesse of handtools.
Goodluck on your school, am sure it will be very difficult to start but would breeze once it does.
Watch out lang for accidents especially with powertools, prepare waivers before the start of class together with the rules you wish to set. A big sign regarding the rules would be nice to have in the shop as well to remind students. A first aid kit up to some degree is also very important. Lots of things to work on before you get to work... So think priorities muna and dwell on the projects once you have the school set up.
Cheers.

Re: Woodworking Workshop: Anyone interested?

Thank you everyone for the inputs. Unfortunately organizing our stuffs that came this May is taking longer than I wanted to be. Up to now we are still living in boxes. So I couldn't really start this workshop. Plus the fact that I would have to maintain at least P20,000 monthly rent for a studio that I will just really use for maximum 3 days a month is so impractical. If you really want to learn woodworking, come over here at my place in Laguna. We'll do a full day workshop instead of halfday. Tapos I'll just arrange for a day na i-deliver yung mga works nyo papuntang MM. 😉 Unless yung mga master woodworkers dito sa PHM ang mag offer sa MM then mas okay yun. Hehehe!
