My sister wanted a new work table for their interns at their office, the requirements were that it would be the same or close to the design of the very first table i made also for them and should be able to be dismantled. Due to my hectic schedule this is now a Work-in Pinish..
Started out cutting the sheet goods, i used 1/4" ribbon grain and 3/4" marine ply for the table top. My "tracksaw":
Glued the two together using Rugby
Once the contact cement had dried i cut the top to final size
Re: Work Table project
Next was to put hardwood edging to the top
Re: Work Table project
I didnt bother with using mitered edges for the edging so i oversized the lengths,
i used the Veritas flush cut saw for trimming it down to size. I highly recommend this saw.
Re: Work Table project
trimmed the edging flush with the top and bottom
then rounded the edges
Re: Work Table project
Now on to the hard part. Due to work, most of my building time was at night and early morning meaning no use of powertools. Its nice being a hybrid woodworker, electrical constraints dont affect the work flow. Cutting the leg stock to size using a handsaw.
Re: Work Table project
Somehow managed not to take a shot of the jointer at work but it did get a massive workout from this project as i dimensioned the legs by hand.
Because the jointer was set for a heavy cut and the wood had some differing grain direction, tear out was unavoidable.
To tame tear out i moved to the mujingfang smoother with an effective cutting angle of 50degrees
No more tearout
Re: Work Table project
On to the joinery, to match the old table i used the same, lap joints.
Using a marking knife to make sawing easier
Was able to get some time during the day to cut the joints
Re: Work Table project
then work got in the way again, so back to working early mornings..
all this handsawing made my cutting stroke better
Adjusting the joints with a shoulder plane
rounding the edges
Re: Work Table project
On to glue up
ince the design called for no legs at the middle, i needed to reinforce the top with a 2x4 to prevent sagging.
Glued and screwed to the table top
On to finishing, i forgot to take pics but i used the ROS for the table top, using 240 grit so as not to burn through the thin veneer.
Sanded the edging
Re: Work Table project
For the finish, i used BLO and sprayed polyurethane followed by a wax coat. Sorry no photos of the spraying as it was a rush before i went to work.
In this photo there are two panels, one was supposed to be a shelf underneath the table top but a design change rendered it unused.
Here is the finished project
At its final location

Yun lang di ko gusto dito, max 4 pics per post. Had to remove some to make it fit since i copied the format from my post in the other site.
