Good day fellow woodworkers and tool nuts! I was at booksale and came across a magazine about boxes (jewelry, knitting, photos, etc). It's kinda nice and to think about the scrap woods that's been scattered around my garage, I thought why not. I'm use to making different type of tables cabinets and dressers and to think that Christmas is near so why not make something special for special friends l. Below are the project in progress. It took me almost two days to finish and it was quite fun.

I started with a 1/2 x 4 x 4.5' mahogany.

started cutting dados with my table saw.

more dados

stated cutting the side panels 45 degrees and dry assembling it.

Re: Xmas give away project

Interesting is that I glued it not separating the lid.
went back to the table saw to separate the lid

stopper for the wood tiles for accuracy

Assorted tiles made of dao, gmelina, and mahogany.

Re: Xmas give away project

Dry fitting the tiles and a peek inside
fully assembled box and ready for finishing
Clear dead flat lacquer and after drying was to give a natural shine.
Another box different design in progress made it in less than a day.

You really are a woodworking geek! You've just noticed the error. It's supposed to be on the other side but wider (1/4"). Filled it up with plastic wood. For the "lid lip" , the cut is between the two arrows you've marked. Noticed that I have to make another tablesaw pass on the two grooves to get a clean quarter inch.

between the upper groove and the lower groove will have a cearance the same size as the saw kerf . (the image shows a little bit wider) a cut will be made by the use of a table saw thereafter automatically creating the lid that would snugly fit.

Bro,

Very very nice box.

You also gave me a good idea how to make boxes with perfect fitting lids. Build it as one then cut it into two. 🙂
