Hello guys!
What do you think of this one?
Craftsman 8" bench-top drill press
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/tls/1971256544.html
What should I look for when I inspect the unit? Most likely this is 110V,
pero pwede naman palitan ng 220V motor, di ba?
TIA!
Re: 2nd hand drill press
Some motors can be switched from 110 to 220... some =/. When i bought a replacement half horse baldor it was 5.8K- costs as much as other people's DP. (There's a .5HP in LYS maybe japanese or of thai origin that's below 4K pioneer brand.)
Can't recall step down transformer prices but to help you, 1hp= 750 watts.
I'd look for chuck runout i.e. wobble. Hold the chuck and see if the quill rattles against the bore in the body. Put in a drill bit and see if the bit moves- got a dial indicator to check the numbers- but honestly if you can see the runout, that's too much. Let the motor run for 15 mins to see if it can. A quill lock and depth stop would be great features.
FWIW, that craftsman just looks like any generic DP you can buy at t.alonzo for about 3K, my first drill press was like that. I bet that craftsman is a rebadged one.
During the bygone era when not everything's made in China, any industrialized country makes a drill press of quality that's already bygone too. Japanese, british, swedish... doesn't matter. Here's a spanish drill press in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0qpSyGww0M
Re: 2nd hand drill press
Thanks, Owyn!
Kung 3K lang sa T. Alonzo, dun na lang ako bibili.
Ito na lang siguro ang bibilhin ko, $5 lang. Kung hindi man gumana, not much loss. :p
Re: 2nd hand drill press
it might be $5 but the freight cost might be $50..:p
Re: 2nd hand drill press
it might be $5 but the freight cost might be $50.expensive pa rin sir.:p
Lots of choices at T.Alonzo..sa ARQ hardware meron very cheap one..
I`ve been using ozito 5 Speed Drill Press DP-350 so far ok naman..some may disagree but DIY purpose naman very dependable..
