Re: all about tablesaws
A few months back I was planning to make my own table saw using some angle bars welded together, some pillow blocks to hold the shaft rod where the 12" blade will be attached, a fan belt connected to the electric motor which is bolted to the angle bars provided. This plan of mine was similar to the one I saw in a lumber yard where they accept wood planks or coco lumber to be cut for a fee. I said to my self what an innovation and ingenueity on their part. :p
The difference with their build was that their saw was being run by a diesel engine with a stick shift and that is their speed adjuster and the one I was intended to DIY sana will be run by a 1.5HP electric motor which I have already as a reserve for my mechanical water pump.
To make the story short, I never got to start with the plan up to now and specially when I saw in our last EB, August 20 the GTS10 by BOSCH which sir Golden brought for us present to see, I guess I'll just drop the idea of DIYing a table saw and just to save up some money for this Table Saw. I think this will be safer and more accurate to use with all its special features 😉 😎
and the built is really awesome and looks so solid plus it would be very easy to move with its TS stand with wheels.

I saw a similar set up in Batangas where sometimes i get my woods. And here are the pics:

Re: all about tablesaws
Minsan yung mga gawa gawa Lang ng mga regular carpenters nakakainggit talaga dahil it's functional and really cheap. But once you consider the safety, accuracy and durability doon na magbabago yung pananaw natin. My assistant also offered me an aluminum table were I can placed an inverted CS, for less than 5t DAW it's tempting indeed, pero baka sa disgrasya and sablay ng putol eh mas malaki pa magastos. In one construction site nakita ko they just screwed the CS in a 3/4 plywood and ayun ang dami nailing naputol na plywood and liston/edging,nakakamangha yung tapping nila hehehe. Will just save for a branded TS na Lang din.

That is correct Armand, "Very Dangerous" indeed.
every picture showed something wrong with the way tools are use and showed what is the norm in the industry. Criticize anyone of them and your in for a quarrel you can never win. Haaaay. I have been to several woodworking companies, shops, store and whatyoucallthem and not one have I seen proper way tools are used.
Funny how little value life in our country is, so losing a finger or a hand for that matter cost even less.
I would actually rather see a diy ts with a user who knows how to use it properly than a real machine and no knowledge of use whatsoever... but of course a good user with a good tool is best!

sa durability, those things are tough. the motors on them are huge induction type.
i inquired, they were more than happy to tabas sheet goods for a fee. it looks like i'm outsourcing some jobs.

try working for a day with one less thumb or pointer finger, how about working with one less hand. Yes the dust is also something to protect yourself from, but it shouldn't stop one from wanting safety in other aspects. If you really want to know a little more about it, Safety glasses are also very important when using this tool.
do you think that "Ignorance is Bliss" or "What you do NOT know will not hurt you" because ignorance or even worse avoidance of safety protocols, I think, that is the worst risk.
Again you can follow your views, but we like to be safety conscious in this site and we do not take safety lightly. When stupidity steps in, accidents happen...

nakakatakot naman talaga yang mga pictures na yan!

Re: all about tablesaws
The main reason that I planned to make my own table saw sana was because I wanted to resaw some IPI-IPIL wood planks that I have stocked in the garage for more than 2 years now and also to mill some IPIL trunks and Talisay trunks with 15 to 18 inches in diameter which were fallen by some past typhoons, e sayang naman if I just let it rot or be consumed by termites.
Maybe I could make some garden benches and tables out of this wood, simply drench it with solignum to preserve the wood. Nevertheless the DIY table saw plan was junked because back in my mind there were these questions that would always be asking me, will it be safe to use ?, how will you address kickbacks if ever they occur ?, how will you address too if accidents happen? will the DIY saw give a precise cut and will the circular blade be properly installed and so many more questions would pop out. Nagkaroon ba ng agam agam sa plano, a doubt that is so strong in its safety use, so I never got to start the build though I have already the 3 X 3 angle bars and the pillow blocks.
I guess I'll just cut up the IPIL and TALISAY trunks using my chainsaw then stock them planks in the garage again and just wait for the time that I'll be able to purchase a good table saw like probably the GTS10 from BOSCH. :p
I cannot allow or afford loosing a finger or two or even worst the whole hand with an unsure DIY table saw construction. 😮 🙁

I personally saw these guys ripping and jointing my acacia..kickback indeed happened several times on the saw but the guys are so adopted to the equipment that they managed to deal with it..napipigilan nila ang kickback especially the old guy at the back of the saw he's the one receiving the wood being ripped and they both hold down the wood during kickback..very gory to watch.
This sawmill is a ragtag type, the dimensioned woods are not uniform in size. After passing the woods to the jointer, the last process is planing the remaining sides using only handheld power planer.
So bro Rosy, the DIY table saw is really not a cool idea. Baka sabay na tayo mag GTS10 next year.
