Re: all about tablesaws

The GTS10 is similar to the 4100 in almost evry way except the riving knife/blade guard. It's hard to make an objective assesment since the unit I'm testing has a DULL blade (calling golden!).

My reviews is of a unit with a very dull blade.

The riving knife/splitter is integrated to the blade guard, thus you cannot use dado blades, non-through cuts or crosscut sled with this unit in its present setup.

This is very important. How much does it cost to do a modification and are the parts readily available locally? Does it have kickback pawls too?

Re: all about tablesaws

@jarod,
You mean the GTS-10 does not accept dado blades? I thought it can, you just have to remove the blade guard, riving knife, etc. And I'm not so sure about the "no waiting" part. Two units lang daw ang inorder ng Panda? 😀

Dado, pwede ah! *secretly edits post* 😀

No comment on the waiting part, maybe you could ask them how many days will you wait if you'll order one.

@ timber715,

WHOOOAAAAHHH, timbs, what a great review or comparison of the two Bosch TS, very comprehensive and very clear, this is what we need to know as possible first time buyer and users or one who intends to upgrade their first chin TS, very well explained. :banana2: :banana2:

Isang malaking saludo sa iyo bro, we get to be properly educated by this kind of reviews. 😉
Like the review, direct to the point, walang pakeme keme, no cosmetisizing of the said units.

@ jarod

Nice comparison too and very nice pic of the GTS 10, nakaka tulo ng laway sa ganda. :p

Re: all about tablesaws

I still don't get it how the GTS 10 "splitter" can be modded to have a riving knife. In the 4100 the riving knife can be adjusted with different heights. Locked or released by a knob inside the saw.

You can mod the existing splitter and it should cost nothing or get a piece of sheet metal and cut to dimension it should set you back no more than 1k...

Re: all about tablesaws

Does the knife go up and down with the blade when adjusted?

yes, it does.

From what I understand from the previous post I read in this forum that a riving knife goes up and down with the blade. So if it does then this GTS10 has a riving knife already?

It goes up and down, but the blade guard is attached to it and cannot be easily dismantled. That's why there an option for the mod since it can go up and down with the blade, we can permanently remove the blade guard and modify the knife. The original knife even with the blade guard is higher than the blade.

labo ba?

I have not tried the GTS10 but I do own a 4100 so what I say might be based more on what I have. In the 4100 I can take off the blade guard and the kickback pawl and reinstall both in probably less than 30 seconds. Lower the riving knife and raise it in probably another 30 seconds more. This alone is a plus factor for me when doing dado cuts even when using the stock blade. I would consider this feature useful too when setting up for cross cut sleds.

The Smart Guard System of the 4100 is worth looking at very very closely. It is what makes it a far superior saw at least in my point of view.

None the less these are both Bosch saws and for a fact we know that they make good TS and arguably better than compared to the competition in this particular class.

Re: all about tablesaws

Price wise I don't think there will be much difference between importing a 4100 and getting a GTS10 locally.

Here are a few shots of the 4100 Smart Guard System. Be warned however that this is a US Version and warranty issues are next to nil. Getting this saw means you're on your own when it comes to service.
