I read it can be done. and it does make sense why it can
Just wondering if anyone has made a jig or a diy mount for a planer so you get a jointer.
I have a power planer. A purchase with no forethought. Since i bought it i never used it,. Been sitting around for a 8 months (my basement was being fixed for 6 months)
Since my wife is happily going to purchase me a gift i was thinking of a jointer and a planer/thicknesser. but if i can do joint jobs with my planer i will skip the jointer. 🙂
I might just have her get me a shopvac as the gift... getting alot of sawdust lately
Re: anybody used a power planer as a jointer yet?
I have had a Bosch power planer before. got to use it twice and that was just to try it out. sold it after a year and never got to use it since. though sometimes lately I have several rough stock that I could have made use of it. but I don't miss it at all since my handplanes can do its job in a more controlled setting.
I would never bring the work to the tool in this case, I would rather bring the tool to the wood. there seems no benefit using it upside down, only increases the danger of having your fingers exposed to its blades. IMHO...

Re: anybody used a power planer as a jointer yet?
It did cross my mind long ago but I never got around to doing it. There are commercial plans ($9) for making a jointer using a router. If you do decided to try, please make sure you put a blade guard. Look at how commercial jointers do this. Again the Grizzly website is a great source since the manuals (including assembly drawings) are online.
