Last Saturday I bought 1pc. the receipt indicates ( Bi pipe 3/4 s-20 ) at 250php. The pipe is not fitted to clamps, how to I measure the pipe to find out if the hardware sold me the correct size?

Re: B.I. pipe for Irwin pipe clamps.

This experience is for a GI pipe.

GI pipe's specified size is for the inner diameter (ID). Meaning the 3/4" or 1/2" measurement is for the hole of the pipe, not its outside diameter (OD). GI pipes are available in different thicknesses (a.k.a. "schedule"), so the outside diameter will vary. Even with pipes of the same schedule the OD still varies slightly

With pipe clamps what is important is the OD and not the ID. I ordered a GI pipe from my neighborhood hardware. When it was delivered, my pipe clamp doen't grip and just slides over. So to make sure what I'm going to get is useable for the pipe clamp, I brought the clamp with me to the hardware store, and tried it on the pipes and chose the ones that give me enough grip.

In short, bring the clamp with you and choose right pipe.

Happened to me before ,

As what sir Joey mentioned choose a thicker pipe by specifying a thicker "schedule" , kasi sa kin dati nabili ko ganun din nangyari the clamps just slides .

Better yet bring the clamp when going to the hardware hehehehehe

Thanks for the speedy answer, this is another lesson learned.

This means the higher the number the thicker the pipe? And what is better a B.I. or G.I.

Re: B.I. pipe for Irwin pipe clamps.

+ 1 on joey81 reply, simply bring with you the clamp when buying your 3/4 pipe.

With regards to what is better pipe to use, in my honest opinion I'd prefer the GI pipe, why ? it will take years before it rusts and if it does, its easier to clean. I hate BI (black iron) pipes for it rust easily, mapatakan lang ng tubig o pawis, kalawang na agad in a few minutes, so it needs to be wiped with oil or DW 40 frequently plus madumi sa kamay !! 😮 😡

GOOD LUCK !!

Got mine from local hardware, 3/4 S40, cutting in half lang po, they don't offer threading atleast where I bought mine. I'm planning to buy those cheap Creston brand around 1.5k from ACE in case I needed to thread for longer needs.
