Re: Bosch 4100-09 Tablesaw, five and very alive

It's about $15 more expensive. I like the way the aluminum bars can be used as a handle to lug it around. But, since I'd be using mine screwed down to it's dedicated table, the handles would be Jo advantage. I can see this new one would be good for those contractors who heft equipment to worksites.

The 4100 model we got are made of hard plastic ( housing ) and would probably go brittle after quite some time. I would have preferred and aluminum body much like the one you posted if I had that chance when I purchased my saw.

Millermatic 180 Autoset Mig Welder
Miller Spoolmate 100 Spool Gun
Victor Firepower 350 Oxy Ace Outfit
3M Speedglas 9002X AD Helmet
Makita LC1230 Dry Cut Saw
Ingersoll Rand Air Tools
Snap On Tools
Metabo Power Tools
Norseman Drill Cutting Tools
Bosch Power Tools

haven't seen or heard of the plastic getting brittle Jay, even with the older 4000 model. Have you? the new saw has a rip capacity of 18" only, ours have 25", plus it can only accept dado blade up to 1/2" max, ours can accept much more. the advantage I see on it is the weight, which makes it easy for carrying around such for contractors, and that the motor is freely ventilated and would less likely to get dust on the motor.
it comes equipped with a riving knife, a dust chute is in place, how well it is is still unknown...

gts1031 vs 4100? that's easy :cool::cool::cool:

So it's apples to oranges when comparing the saws. I thought it was only the body that was changed.

Re: Bosch 4100-09 Tablesaw, five and very alive

Tried out the general purpose Freud blade today. I needed to cut a rather large piece of 3/4 inch marine plywood so I extended my table saw, set up the fence, and proceeded to cut. My focus was on the fence as I pushed the plywood because I wanted to make sure the plywood was really flush to it. After some pushing, I thought I may have forgotten to raise the blade because I felt nothing nor heard nothing (aside from the usual loud whine of the TS motor. I looked at the blade. It was cutting!

This blade is so sharp and smooth in didn't even feel any resistance pushing the wood into it. And when I inspected the cut, makinis!

I almost bought this blade before but opted for the Diablo. At that time it was the only Freud blade that got real use thumbs up from several of our very respected woodworkers here. Nice to know we have more options now other than Diablos.

Re: Bosch 4100-09 Tablesaw, five and very alive

Looks like a continuation of the 'Need a new TS blade' thread...

From a quick reading of what was readily available in the Freud 10" Diablo and Industrial line, unless I missed something, there were no options for dedicated ripping other than the Industrial 87 (24T).

The only opportunity for choice was in a multi-purpose blade, where the options were

  • 'General Purpose' (40T) -- Diablo 1040 or Industrial 86
  • 'Combination' (50T) -- Diablo 1050 or Industrial 83

and in dedicated crosscutting (60 or 80T) -- Diablo 1060 or 1080 or Industrial 88.

I still don't understand the difference between 'general purpose' and 'combination', although it may not be so important.
