This could be the most versatile woodworking tool in anyone's shop. A tabletop carving machine that offers endless possibilities of great woodworking projects. Though expensive at a starting price of $1,599 it is a good alternative for CNC machine for woodworking.

Another item in my wishlist...

Re: Carving Machine

@arman
when it was released about two years ago, its introductory price was almost 2K USD.

and Wood magazine has its own review of it...yes its cheaper than most CNC's close to 10K USD but unless you are a signmaker that you will reap its benefits.

to give you a clue...a 6 inches x 12 inches board for standard designs may need 45 minutes to finish.

further, there is an initial software that comes with the unit but optional softwares for intricate designs (font wise) may not come cheap..and this is another drawback according to the magazine.

Re: Carving Machine

another thing...for best results....you may need a thicknesser before feeding the stock to the unit.

there is an optional "scanner" as well to fit the unit for relief carvings...optional which means another expense on the consumer.

if you buy one, you will need to buy "this and that" accessories...in the end..you will have accumulated 2K worth of accessories to maximise that 1,599 USD.

perhaps and in the end you are going to throw away the very basic tools for woodworking...like chisels, gouges and marking tools since all you need is the computer to do the instruction.

eventually, you will be very dependent on that machine...the beauty of woodworking by hand will be lost.

sometimes...in woodworking..going thru the process of making a project is the real reward rather than the project itself.

to put another way...sometimes its the journey that is most rewarding than the destination itself.

Re: Carving Machine

Mukha nga syang thicknesser sa unang tingin eh..sayang pwede sanang pagkakitaan. I was just amazed by the machine's capability of building things in more precise and accurate way. Thanks violaine for the input.

Re: Carving Machine

its just an afterthought kung sakali bumili tayo nyan hehe.

another thing is...your friends will be amazed hindi sayo kundi sa machine...all your handtools will be envious of your new toy..they will rust in their shelves...eventually only to find their way out of your woodshop.

pros in getting one for yourself...

you can cook, watch tv or water the garden while "you" do your woodworking.

but if someone will just give me that as a gift...who am i to resist it?!
:p

goodnight
