For the past days nag search ako ng circular saw, yon muna kasi gusto ko unahin. Ito yung mga katanungan ko.

Should I go to brandnew or surplus..

Skill 5300 Priced at 3100php brandnew

or itong mga nasa sulit.com

Ozito

Marami sa sulit kaso syempre gusto ko makasiguro.

Thanks po

Re: Circular saw help.

Ralph,

If it was me on your position I'd consider the Skil high up my list. First off this product is handled by Bosch and would be fully supported in the market. Service, parts and warranty wise.

If it meets your budget then I suggest you take a closer look at the saw. If the budget can be stretched naman then a Bosch circular saw will be a notch above.

Hi Jay,

Medyo ma stretch out pa naman yung budget. And yon din po ang thought ko when buying. Yong spare parts availability in case masira, and syempre pag bago alam mo yung history ng tool..
On going pa naman research ko madami pa option. Post ko po update ko.

Sana di ka magsawa mag payo.. BTW kita ko mga post mo sa sulit 🙂

Re: Circular saw help.

Brad I have a 4 year skilsaw that I still use. Madami na ito na rip na plywood, soft and hardwood. Best bang for the buck. I also have a 2nd hand US made skilsaw 110v. Kung konti lang price difference from an aussie surplus mag brand new ka na. One other thing to consider is the blade.

Re: Circular saw help.

HI there again Ralph,

OK, said you are on a budget and that it gonna be for hobby only to start with, yung mga nasa Sulit may really be very cheap like the Ozito, Ryobi, XUI, GMC, and others but they are all considered surplus or second hand tools that have been used or rejected by others or previous owners. If you are gonna spend some money on them, the question of quality will always arise and you have no warranty at all if the motor gets defective after several use and that is a fact whilst buying locally, you have a better chance of having an after sales service, support, and warranty. The known brands here have service centers where you can bring your tools if in case the motor or carbon brush gets spent.

If its really for starters and hobby, you can start with a Black&Decker or a SKIL saw or perhaps a Maktec circular saws, for a hobbyist these will serve you well for a long time. I have a SKIL circular saw that I use occasionally just to cut some plywood and some planks and its quality is comparable to the professional grade circular saws in the market.

Think well, weigh your options and choose well the brand so you won't get disappointed in the long run.

Good luck on your search for your first circular saw 😉 😎

Re: Circular saw help.

Surplus item nowadays were not cheap anymore medyo expensive na rin unlike before when im still selling it..Surplus term is also not the right term for the item like ozito ryobi etc- surplus were actually over run or excess exports but now terms like surplus were synonymous to cheap used unreliable items from abroad just like if we go to banawe if we see car surplus what comes in mind were chop chop used items.. Actually australian tools were 2nd products with cosmetic issue-returns etc -some with minor not functional related issue and returned to store some were in good condition( no question ask return policy really helps) ,There they turn it if you dont like it just retun with defect mark were in actual item is in good condition. -.Golden rule for buying surplus is it should be priced at 40% of local leading brand..I.E.. if skill cost 3.1k surplus should be 1.3k for you to consider to buy it due to risk of no long warrant.. for parts its not an issue u can buy a defective one for parts for 20% of the cost. Thats the rule i also apply in selling - if market consolidator price the item at leat 30% more than existing local brand new brand..STOP selling.

I recommend you spend more in brand new item for now - If you consider 2nd product - Take milwaukee brand now invading the local surplus market" For brand new branded --Take makita circular saw instead of other local brand - best in everything - service and durability..also skil is ok

Re: Circular saw help.

I'd go for the Skil. You are sure it will have parts and will be supported by Bosch. Bosch also has good relations with many of us here.

As for me, I use a Maktec circular saw. It's basic and I abuse it a lot because I use it for ripping long pieces or for rough-cutting material that I cannot put on my table saw. In fact, I abuse it so much I am now replacing its blade. My Maktec still works.

I don't think you can go wrong with either product.

The rule "Buy the most expensive power tool you can afford" or "Cry once" are often true.

Re: Circular saw help.

I've got nothing against these surplus imports coz I buy them too and because they are cheaper than the branded ones, but I am very careful where I source them and make sure they are considered as 99.99% brand new. Perhaps for an entry level this will suffice. I use these surplus tools together with my branded tools so its not really abused and if ever it bogs down on me, it wouldn't really hurt that much since it is really cheap and can easily be replaced. Plenty of these power tools are around and one can choose the best working ones. This are OK if it will only be used occasionally, but one can still upgrade his tools if he desires in the future and if budget permits, there is nothing like having a good worthy power tool around when needed. 😉 🙂 😎

Re: Circular saw help.

One more ting about surplus tools.

Most of these come from Australia where voltage 220V at 50Hz. Philippine electricity is at 220V and 60Hz. Running an Australian surplus motor-based power tool on Philippine electricity means you are probably spinning 20% faster than spec.

I had my run of Australian surplus and made sure I don't run them at full speed to avoid overload.
