Hi everyone, can I please ask your opinions. I am a beginner in woodworking. I plan to do small cabinets, right now my first project will be a wall mounted tool cabinet. I live in a condo, but I really want to start this hobby.

My question is, which one would be more appropriate for my need: A table saw or a circular saw?

Thanks everyone.

Re: Circular saw or table saw

If you have the funds for it i suggest you buy the table saw. Though considering your place a circular saw might be more practical.

Re: Circular saw or table saw

Thanks for the reply Sir Amboy. There is a laundry cage at the rooftop that I am planning on using as my workplace. I'm just worried if I'll get complaints from the neighbors hanging their laundries. Pero ayaw ko papigil e. Bahala na siguro.

In that case go for the table saw bro 🙂

Re: Circular saw or table saw

I completely agree on the table saw suggestion. Many of us here use the Bosch table saw. There is a model sold locally. I myself use a Bosch 4100 I ordered from Amazon and shipped here.

Your neighbors may complain about the sawdust sticking to their wet clothes. You may want to improvise on some enclosed space when you use your saw such as some plastic curtains or partitions. But you'll need to watch out for sawdust buildup in enclosed spaces as they are combustion hazards.

Re: Circular saw or table saw

Thanks Sir Balarila. Appreciate the fire hazard warning very much.

One more question I hope not OT, if you're using table saws only, how do you cut a whole plywood? Hand saw po ba muna?

I have both circular saw and table saw. For whole plywood or other very long material, I use the circular saw first, then i move to the table saw, when the material is small enough to work on the table saw stably.

In your case, you may want to use a handsaw first.

Re: Circular saw or table saw

So, I was able to find a rental circular saw from True Value, i just realized that cutting a whole plywood is not that easy in a small space. I'm breaking safety rules just to cut it in half. I did it patayo, from top to bottom imagine that. I was thinking i really need a circular saw, a cordless one, then i'd cut my wood where I will buy them. Mukha pong ito ang pinakadirection.

Re: Circular saw or table saw

Circular saw need not be expensive. I use a Maktec, that's the cheap line of Makita. You may also find Skil (the cheap Bosch line) also good value for money.

Reason why I go for cheap circular saw is that I find I use it only for initial dimensioning of wood (e.g. plywood or long planks) to cut them down to manageable size. I then use the table or miter saw for the more accurate cuts.

But be very careful using it. I can imagine what you went through and that can be dangerous. The circular saw may jam on the wood and kick back at you. Happened to me a few times and I consider myself a very safe worker. Take no compromises on safety.

Re: Circular saw or table saw

i learn a lot watching online about table saws and circular saw, i practice first using a circular saw, then after i gather some skills, I convert the circular saw to table saw (IZZY SWAN of think woodworks) as the other said it would be handy if you have circular saw and table saw....
