Re: Clamps and vises thread

Bessey clamps, my favorite. They're always the first ones I grab when gluing my work.
I like them because I can use them up to 100" length with the use of extenders.

bought from amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Bessey-KRX2450-Fixed-Jaw-Parallel-Clamp/dp/B001HSO6WC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1314806454&sr=8-6

Where are these clamps made?

Thanks

JayL,
honestly I didn't bother to read the literature hehe. I'll take a look when I get home if I still have it.

Re: Clamps and vises thread

Saw at Han's last month, P178 and P198. Being Löta, I assume Panda would have these, anyone seen?

There is a spring at the pivot point but it is for opening the clamp, unlike in a spring clamp. The adjustable force for closing seems to be from bending of the plastic.

The cardboard says: You Can Simple Control , Adjust Pressure The Force.
Light
Increase
Heavy Duty
Push it
Quick Release

Re: Clamps and vises thread

Was "coaxing" a 3/4-inch thick plank of bowed kamagong into a straight edge with this clamp.

Lesson: Have the patience to steam wood. Or have the money to buy a jointer.

Or use Wilton Drop Forged Steel C Clamps ... I presume the wood you are working on is easier to straight bend than 1/2" thick mild steel.

I'm done with KYK ... unless for very very very light duty work .

Panda has Wilton and the prices are very competitive.

Re: Clamps and vises thread

Groz Parallel Clamps

If you are into building cabinet doors and or edge jointing some nice planks then parallel clamps cant just be beat.

Although i am not a fan of Groz handplanes (mediocre build) one of our member while window shopping from our favorite store chanced upon these new arrivals months ago.

There are two models depending on the length but i chose the 24 inchers for my preference, building wise.

The face plate is hard plastic, gray black as oppose to the green, red or blue ones from the leading brands (Bessey, Irwin).

For the 24 inchers, the 6" Bessey Uniklamp is pale by comparison in all aspects

3/8" thick solid metal body

at the ends are foot rest which are helpful to balance the weight of the clamp when clamping boards less than 1 foot.
the top shows the foot plastic at rest and below when it is in action

Re: Clamps and vises thread

the turning knobs are not wooden but of the same built as the metal bar with deep set threads.

although 24", an allowance of 1" is provided to give you space when aligning the boards making a max room of approx 25".

and of course , let me try show you how it will work.

each 24" clamp can be had for 1500p++ i just needed two.

btw: i hope our favorite store will give us incentive when we promote their stash!!!

@V

I'm having a hard time trying this phrase this question so I better shoot it direct.

Do you think this particular Groz product is at par or maybe even better than the Bessey ( apples to apples ).

Bessey does manufacture in India now. The welding magnets I got from them were made in India.

Thanks

Re: Clamps and vises thread

@jay,

bro, the Bessey uniklamp 6" model is a lightweight duty parallel clamp and i did some injustice to the Bessey camp comparing it to the 24" incher Groz!:(

i cant say much between Groz and its real counterpart, which perhaps now is the Revo body of Bessey.

my only concern is the hard plastic face plate which is relatively thin at approx 1.5mm.

in itself, the clamp is well built.

i hope moji (who has a set of Revo) can give us an in depth review.

Fair warning: the branch on Araneta Avenue is very easy to miss (the store is
a lot narrower than most expect it to be), so keep your eyes peeled.
