Im looking for a new cordless drill.

Gusto ko yung may capability to drive at least a 3" wood screw on good lumber.

can a 14.4V drill do that or I need a more powerful drill?

to be precise ilang minimum of Nm or Lbs-in torque to drive that?

TIA!

Re: Cordless Drill

since you mention about the torque and the N, then you must be aware of impact drivers.

i am using this impact driver and i have no problems driving 3" screws with no predrilling...i tried it also driving 1/4 x 4" long tek screws but predrilled.

but this cant be used for drilling.

Re: Cordless Drill

ok ah.. kaya na pala ng 9.6V na impact driver..

pag ordinary drill lang? kaya na kaya ng 14.4v?

no problem in drilling, I have my corded drill for that.

Re: Cordless Drill

Migs, it would depend on many factors such as type of wood and diameter of the drill bit. On the average use, the 14.4V would still be sufficient.

Re: Cordless Drill

@migs,

anu ba project mo brader?

kahit siguro yung 14.4V na drill driver will only have 20Nm torque...baka mahirapan pa din i drive yung 3 inch screw...besides be aware na me mga palplak din na screws..they break halfway due to heat.

i suggest you predrill the hole.

so..buy a pair!

Re: Cordless Drill

and the impact driver is a must for these self tapping 2 1/2" square drive screws with no predrilling (kaya pala self tapping hehe)...and these screws dont break at all..not even once.

my bosch is using a nicad and i would be happier if it is running on lighter lithium ions.

Re: Cordless Drill

a 14.4 volt cordless should suffice, but just to be clear, what kind of screw specifically will you be using? the driver might handle the load but will the screw, screw head or screw body handle it? and is good lumber you are referring to tanguille?
I have driven 3" screws and have been very satisfied with the Bosch 14.4 and never wanted another.... until the 18volt model came out...:grouphugg:

Re: Cordless Drill

yes, i was referring to tanguille. ordinary philips head wood screw lang.

pag ginagamit ko kasi corded drill ko, there are a lot of times na nabibilog ko yung philips head.
thinking that the clutch system of cordless drill would avoid that.

so in short, 14.4v drill can suffice sa needs ko, but if I can see a good deal sa 18v syempre dun na

Re: Cordless Drill

sometimes its the screw failure and not the driver itself.

malambot and steel ng common woodscrews kasi..madaling mabilog ng mas matigas na philips driver.

a 14.4V would suffice..it has power and torque for most driving especially 5/32 diameter screws.

that 3.6V is an added weight to the wrist.

it is always necessary i guess to predrill the hole before driving those very long 3" screws.

still my best option is buy two..one for drilling and the other for screwdriving.

and no wonder i have four cordless..kulang pa nga coz its a hassle changing bits and driver sometimes.

lalo na pag me kreg jig.

imho.
