Dealer compaint, buyer beware!

Hi guys, I don't post much here but appreciate those who do. I'm a retired contractor from Canada here on Samal Island. I just wanted to send a warning to those who might be doing business at Skrue Fastener Bolt and Nut Center in Manila.
I just purchased a new circular saw, Makita, 5008MG. very nice saw. When it came, the blade was not a Makita, but the name was Suzuki Siekyo, a carbide tipped 8 inch blade. The saw takes an 8 1/4 inch blade. I was surprised that the blade was not genuine. After putting the new blade on, I started the saw and immediately a carbide tip blew right off. I have never had that happen to me before and thankfully no one was injured. I contacted the seller, Mr Alex Ang from Skrue fastener and told him about the inferior blade with the saw and i wanted a replacement of the genuine Makita blade. After many mails back and forth, he refuses to exchange the blade, says it was a free blade, I must go to Makita myself for replacement etc. I contacted Makita in Japan over this, the keep referring me to Mayon supply, which does not have an Email address. Law says, a defective part must be replaced by seller here as anywhere. I decided that if it takes word of mouth to everyone then that's the way to go.
This deal leaves me very upset and no use of my new saw. Yes I will buy a blade here, but that is not the right way of running a business and it deserves attention to all who are purchasing tools with hard earned money.
Anyone else here had any problems like this?

Re: Dealer compaint, buyer beware!

this is the problem when purchasing over mail, this would not be a problem if it were a local store. an escrow system should be standard in these mail order purchases. It might be a good idea to go for reputable sellers.

you can contact mayon thru their website. http://mayonconstructionsupply.com/contact

I had a makita 5008 mg, bought some time in 2010 at Mayon construction supply it comes with HSS blade not a carbide tip blade.

Hi joe833a,

So sorry to know about your not so good dealing with that store in Manila and thanks for sharing this information here in the forum. Do you have any idea where this store is located so we may be informed and avoid perhaps dealing with them. 🙁

I guess you can just charge that to experience. Now may I suggest that you just give Mayon Construction Supply a call and see if they have the carbide tip blades you are looking for.

Re: Dealer compaint, buyer beware!

Joe,
Mayon is the distributor in the Phils. for Makita, they are not owned nor controlled by Makita Japan or its affiliated. Separate entity and run by a family.
The blade you got is supplied by Mayon together with the saw, it is a new blade but old stock which is probably why the carbides blew off. The first models of the same saw actually came with a blank blade. One with out carbides! I know because I was one of the first owners of that saw locally sold.
It is indeed unfortunate but a reality to put their prices down and clean out their inventory or resell the original blade to increase profit. However the case may be, this practice has been long happening and even writing the brands mother company will do no good since it is a separate entity.
Suggest you buy a replacement blade instead, perhaps another brand like a freud if one fit the saw. You can pm Jay for an inquiry since he gets imported items for a lot of members here.
Goodluck...

Btw, I already sold mine and got a better one.... Made by Bosch 🙂

Re: Dealer compaint, buyer beware!

I did not know this info before about Mayon's position as the Makita distributor here. All the while I thought it was under Makita's direct control.

However I do know that the Bosch Distribution in the Philippines is owned by Bosch itself.

Did I get this right Timb?

That is correct Jay.... Kaya lang eventhough Bosch Phils is under its parent company, they still do have targets to achieve. Kaya better to buy local kung available naman.

Hi Rosy,
Sorry for taking so long getting back to my problem, and thanks to all for the info. I am not used to dealing with this kind of problem in Canada so it really gets my blood pumping.
The dealer was Skrue Fastener Bolts and Nuts Center, 814 Quirino Hi-way, Novaliches, Queson City.
To update this deal, I wrote over 80 E mails, from Japan to Mayon to Skrue to DTI ( Dept Trade & Industry) to here. They wanted the cheap blade returned so I shipped it back. All the time, I demanded the proper replacement with a genuine Makita carbide blade that should have been with it. I held Skrue Fastener responsible for the whole deal and to replace the blade because they were the sellers. Finally, I just received a genuine replacement blade. I really don't know what was going on but. I expect there was a scam going on either at Mayon or Skrue. It makes it very hard to think of all the possibilities that you must ask when buying things. I know its much better to just go to a dealer and purchase, but none here in Davao, so trust in a dealer is important. I think Alex at Skrue, has learned a lesson dealing with me. I don't give up easy when I have been dealt wrongly. Alex seems like a nice guy, but he may be new at this selling business.
Thanks guys for your input. I think we have to be careful all the time. Have a great day!

Hi Timber, Thank you for the info. I did write the manufacturer about their blade, ( no response ) even Mayon did not have the decency to respond directly to me. I thought that was a real slap in the face also. so I wrote Japan again complaining. Well it got resolved anyway and I have the proper blade after spending a lot more time and money for no good reason. I think as you say, Bosh is my future dealer from now on. I have many bosh tools also and like them. Got the big 10 inch chop saw that has no slides, works beautiful up against a wall. Can't remember what they call it- ha ha, old brain here.
Care!
